Denny Hamlin: Kyle Busch put on a ‘clinic’ in Atlanta Truck Series race

Denny Hamlin loved what Kyle Busch did in the NASCAR Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway this past weekend. On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin used one word to describe Busch’s Truck Series win at Atlanta.

“Clinic,” Hamlin said. “You could see that all race he was planning passes, timing passes, and to me even on the last lap where Stewart Friesen was at, he knew how to time it to get the lunge at the start/finish line.

“…Kyle just knows that through so much experience. When I saw Stewart ahead coming off Turn 4, it’s like oh this is not going to end well for him. When you get slightly ahead of the car or truck that’s beside you, their front end is just dumping air right on their spoiler and it drags them back like a parachute. When you come off the corner, you want to be the person that’s behind, dump their air and you get the lunge at the start/finish line. I didn’t think that win was ever in doubt for Kyle.”

Kyle Busch knows how to win Truck Series races

Kyle Busch has competed in 176 Truck Series races and earned 67 victories with 142 top-10 finishes. This is also the second consecutive year Busch has won a Truck Series race at Atlanta.

“Awesome run for this Spire Chevrolet and everybody at [sponsor] Gainbridge,” Busch said after the race, on Saturday, per NASCAR.com.

“Just trying to make sure I stayed as far forward as I possibly could,” Busch said of how he held off the field in the closing laps. “Those guys would cycle to me and get to the next one in front, next one in front of me and I just made sure to keep battling back and got back to the front so I could control it the best I could. That inside [lane] was good, they were rolling forward so it made for a heck of a race.”

“I’m proud we had a heck of a race there to the finish and it wasn’t single-file. There was some mixing it up for these fans out here to see a cool show.”

Busch had a memorable weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, after winning the Truck Series race, the 39-year-old earned a P7 finish in the Cup Series race on Sunday.
