Denny Hamlin expands on Xfinity Series criticisms: ‘Just not a good look’

Denny Hamlin doubled down on his comments about the Martinsville Xfinity Series race after winning the Cook Out 400 on Sunday. While speaking to reporters during his press conference, Hamlin was asked if something needed to be done after Sammy Smith and Taylor Gray ran each other over during the Xfinity race.
“I mean, we’ll talk about it a little bit tomorrow,” Hamlin said about mentioning the ordeal on his Actions Detrimental podcast. “Certainly, I think the sanctioning body needs to get involved a little bit and step in on egregious things. I think it’s continued to ramp up, right? We’ve seen this stuff.
“It used to only happen on green-white-checkereds. Then this place, it seemed like inside 20 to go people would lose their minds. Those guys yesterday did it with 50 to go, absolutely just creaming each other. It was just horrible driving by most of the people out there. It’s just not a good look. Certainly you shouldn’t be able to just wipe someone out egregiously like what happened at the end of the race yesterday. Certainly, we have a black flag for a reason. I think we should start using it.”
Denny Hamlin did not hold back on the NASCAR Martinsville Xfinity race
In overtime, Smith cleaned Gray out in the final corner because he was repaying him for a bump and run earlier in the race. But it was not a good move as Smith wrecked also, and Austin Hill, who did not lead during the entire race, stole a win on Saturday.
This led to Hamlin firing off a series of posts on X/Twitter. “Martinsville is a track that could use a ‘avoidable contact’ penalty,” Hamlin wrote. In another post, Hamlin wrote, “Absolute garbage,” and that was followed up by, “God I wish I were in the booth. Id get fired but I damn sure would call these idiots out.”
The Martinsville Cup Series race did not have the same drama as the Xfinity Series race, as Denny Hamlin cruised to a victory. It was his first win since Dover last April, and he now has 55 Cup Series race victories in his career. Hamlin has looked strong the last few weeks, earning three top-five finishes in his last four races.
