Deep Dive: Spring practice No. 8
Purdue held its eighth practice of the spring on Thursday. And, for the eighth time, the Boilermakers practiced inside the Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Let’s take a Deep Dive!
NOTE: Purdue opened only the first six periods (roughly 30 minutes) of practice today. The Boilermakers next hit the field on Saturday for a practice. There will be no media access or availability.

1 – Heard Ryan Walters sent an email out to employees, inviting them to practice today. It was noticeable, as the sidelines were more congested than usual.
2 – Purdue had one of Indiana’s top 2025 prospects on campus for today’s practice: CB Mason Alexander of Hamilton Southeastern High. He already has offers from Pitt and Florida. Purdue also had 2024 Lafayette Jeff High S Micah Lillard, along with two other 2024 in-state players: St. John RB Xavier Williams, who has an Iowa offer. Also in today: 2024 Ohio OT Dane Wleklinski along with 2025 Maryland EDGE Kamden Laudenslager.
Merrillville EDGE Terrelle Elmore did not make it today. But Indianapolis S DJ Morton of Lawrence Central made the trip with about 10 kids from Indy. Morton has several MAC offers.
3 – Fun to watch the kickers work on field goals in “game like” situations with players yelling around them. Today, Ben Freehill and Caleb Krockover were perfect in the setting. Freehill didn’t workout on Tuesday, so it was good to see him back on the field.
4 – Only three running backs working today: Devin Mockobee, Tyrone Tracy and Addai Lewellen. No Dylan Downing or Kentrell Marks.
5 – Redshirt freshman wideout Curtis Deville was working out, but he was wearing a red jersey. I also didn’t see Elijah Canion or Preston Terrell. Broc Thompson was still MIA, along with tight ends Garrett Miller and Drew Biber and WR Andrew Sowinski.
6 – NT Jamarrion Harkless was back out there after suiting up on Tuesday for what I think was the first time this spring. DE J.P. Deeter remains out, along with NT Damarjhe Lewis. I also didn’t see NT Cole Brevard. No Scotty Humpich or Kydran Jenkins with the OLBs, per usual.
7 – Still no C Gus Hartwig or OT Daniel Johnson with the o-line. Not a shock. I also don’t think I saw OT Vince Carpenter and or G Zach Richards. OT Cross Watson and OT Nalin Fox have been out all spring.
8 – As has been the case, didn’t see Sulaiman Kpaka, Prince Boyd and Isaiah Nichols with the interior d-linemen.
9 – Always see good energy from associate head coach/receivers coach Cory Patterson, who should be a key cog on this staff.
10 – I saw S Anthony Brown, who seems like he’s missed more practices this spring than he’s played. I think the Arkansas transfer has a good chance to play a key role with Cam Allen and Sanoussi Kane.
11 – The more you watch QB Hudson Card, the more you can see why the staff wanted him. He’s a nice blend or run/pass who seemingly fits this offense.
