Out of the six prospects who made their way to Florida State for official visits this weekend, three of them were potential players in the secondary.
The first being a three-star athlete from Macon, Ga., Jiquavious Marshall. And the Seminoles apparently added on to what already has been a great impression.
“Great, I love the facility, I love all the coaches and the bond I have with these guys,” Marshall said.
Florida State’s coaches have told Marshall they expect him to play defensive back or safety if he were to suit up in the garnet and gold. And as such, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound athlete had some detailed conversations with FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain.
“He was just showing me like schemes they run, basically. Walking me through like I already was one of his players,” Marshall said. “Absolutely loved it.”
According to On3, Marshall is the 18th-best athlete in the country as well as the 67th-best player in the state of Georgia. And after the two-day visit, it sure seemed like he may already have his mind made up.
“I definitely considered committing,” the Georgia standout said. “They definitely stand in front of any school that’s wanting me. FSU is on top right now. … Right now, I have my mind made up unless another school changes it.”
Marshall said he still plans to visit Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Pitt this month before officially making a decision.
Another safety on Florida State’s campus this weekend was three-star Red Morgan out of Phenix City, Ala., and he said he loved spending time with head coach Mike Norvell and the rest of the Seminoles’ staff.
“I really liked it …,” Morgan said. “Coach Norvell, like his energy and everything. Like, I know Coach Norvell is doing something big for FSU. It’s something I’d like to be a part of. … This trip, it was different, you know what I’m saying? Going through everything, they were just breaking everything down to me, you know, letting me know how everything goes. …
“It’s real, it’s real. … That warchant, it’s music to my ears. It’s just so satisfying.”
This is another prospect that Florida State’s staff, especially defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, sees playing all over the secondary.
“It was great,” Morgan said. “He was just telling me they’re not just going to put a specific position on me because they know I’m an athlete, that I can play everything.”
This was Morgan’s first official visit of the summer. He plans to go to Cincinnati, Miami and Auburn before he makes a decision.
Last up was four-star defensive back Wardell Mack, who also left with a good impression of the Seminoles.
“Magnificent, great weekend … just to get back into the environment, Florida State,” Mack said. “Real eye-opener from the first visit.”
Mack, a Louisiana product, still has a long way to go in his recruitment and even had trouble listing off the schools he was still considering. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, LSU is still Florida State’s top competition for Mack’s services.
However, he did say he plans to return to Tallahassee for a game in 2023. It most likely will be when the ‘Noles take on Miami.
