Daytona weather delay: NASCAR cancels Truck Series, ARCA practice

Inclement weather is already wreaking havoc on the action at Daytona this week, with a cell impacting the scheduled activities on Thursday.

The ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series have both canceled practices scheduled for Thursday. For now, the Duels still remain on the schedule, though the weather will bear continued monitoring.

It is yet to be determined whether ARCA or the Truck Series will have practice on Friday at Daytona as a result of today’s cancellations, according to a report from FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass.

All on-track activity is on hold right now at Daytona International Speedway due to rain and lightning in the area. Tonight is the NASCAR Duels at Daytona where we will see two more open cars lock into the field for Sunday and the rest of the starting lineup officially set as well.

The Duels at Daytona are set to go off later tonight. Before the rain entered the area, ARCA and the Truck Series were set to practice this afternoon.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. itching for Cup Series debut

For the first time, JR Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have a car competing in NASCAR’s Cup Series, the highest level in the sport. Justin Allgaier will drive the No. 40 car for the organization.

All week long everyone has been geeked out to get going.

“When Dale was here at 6 a.m., I mean he said he was going to be, but I guess in some ways I didn’t expect it,” Allgaier said on The Teardown podcast on Wednesday. “But to see him as excited as he’s been and Kelly and LW… As long as I’ve been in JR Motorsports I don’t know that I ever really saw this come to fruition, No. 1. No. 2, definitely didn’t have me as the driver as the one that would be making the first start for them.”

Where JR Motorsports goes from here remains to be seen, with this stint at Daytona the first foray at the Cup Series level. But one thing is clear: Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his team is enjoying the heck out of it all.

“It’s been cool to see their passion for it,” Allgaier said. “Whether this is the first one of many or this is the first and last one, I don’t know. But it’s been cool to see the process. Dale’s been like a kid in a candy store all through this process, and it’s been really fun to watch. It makes me excited just because he’s that excited.”
