When On3 Industry Ranking 4-star defensive tackle D’Antre Robinson arrives in Austin with his mom Friday, he will see a pair of very familiar and important faces.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder out of ultra talented Jones High in Orlando will be greeted by the Texas staff, and two signees in the 2023 class from Orlando.
Freshmen offensive tackle Payton Kirkland and running back Cedric Baxter Jr. will host Robinson this weekend with a lot on the line for the Longhorns.
“Texas is one of my favorite visits I’ve been to, so I’m excited to be back,” Robinson told Inside Texas Monday afternoon. “I love the playing style. Texas is a young team, and have young guys from my city – Payton (Kirkland) Cedric (Baxter Jr.). They tell me a lot of great things about be at Texas. They love being at Texas.”
Along with key connections from Orlando, the Longhorns have a talented duo of Tashard Choice and Bo Davis recruiting the upside lineman.
“I really enjoy talking to Coach Choice and stuff. He keeps it real. He feels like I can be a great player, and I appreciate everything he says to me positively. I like Coach Bo (Davis) a lot. When I talk to Coach Bo, he goes through all of my tape and every part of my game. He said I’m a priority for them, and I can play early. He keeps it real with me.”
The message from Choice and Davis when they stopped by Jones High in May was clear.
“They said at Texas is I am not wanted, I’m needed. To hear that when they came to see me at my school meant a lot to me.”
Entering June, Texas and Florida were the teams to beat. That has yet to change.
Robinson talks contenders
D’antre Robinson made an official visit to Florida June 2-4, and then an unofficial visit to Ohio State last weekend.
On childhood favorite Florida: “They said I’m a priority. And Florida players need to stay in Florida, and play for the Gators.”
Note: The Florida staff has felt positive about where they stand since the June 2-4 official visit.
On Ohio State: ” I really like Ohio State. The stuff that they have for their players outside of football is impressive. Coach Larry Johnson is real. He’s not going to sugar coat everything. He told me in the spring that if I didn’t get something together personally, he’s not going to offer me. That motivated me to get it fixed, and then he offered me.”
Following the visit to Texas, Robinson will head north and visit Georgia June 23-25. Should his recruitment continue into his senior season, an official visit to Ohio State for the Penn State game is likely.
The Gators hold a small lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with two June visits remaining. There has not been an expert pick made as of June 12.
