Dae’vonn Hall commitment: What does it mean for Nebraska?

The Nebraska football team continues its June recruiting run. The Huskers picked up a big in-state commitment from Bellevue (Neb.) West wide receiver Dae’vonn Hall on Friday.
Here are some quick takes on the commitment of Hall and what it means for Nebraska.

With Hall commitment, NU is now up to 17 commitments and five from the in-state.
1. Hall might be the youngest prospect we’ve ever seen in state history pick up major Division I football offers. Iowa offered Hall after his first game in August of 2020 as a freshman. Nebraska offered Hall on Dec. 1, 2020. He was 15 years old when the Big Red offered.
2. Hall had 62 catches for 974 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. His season-long reception was 80 yards in 2022. He’ll line up next to fellow Nebraska wide-out recruit Isaiah McMorris in 2023 and catch passes from Husker QB commit Daniel Kaelin.
3. Hall’s recruitment has been quite a ride in some ways. It did not look like he was at all interested in the Huskers, just based on his recruiting activity from September to May. His interest was focused on the SEC, as Arkansas, Tennesee, Ole Miss and Texas A&M had his attention. Nebraska felt like they were on the back burner.
4. Give NU head coach Matt Rhule a lot of credit. He backed off Hall, and his official visit set for this weekend was initially canceled. That move caught Hall by surprise, and things came full circle, and the Big Red moved back into the driver’s seat after some things were worked out behind the scenes over the last week.
5. Hall is an explosive athlete with a rare combination of size and speed. At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, he ran 10.62 seconds in the 100-meter dash and had a PR of 6-10 in the high jump. At Tennessee’s camp this month, he was clocked at 22 mph, which would be the second-fastest overall mark on the entire Vol roster, according to VolQuest.com’s Austin Price.
6. With Hall and McMorris’s commits on Friday, the Huskers now have two wide receivers locked in for the class of 2024. The question now is, how many more can NU add? One is a safe bet, but Rhule always makes room for talent.
7. It’s hard not to be excited about watching this Bellevue West offense in 2023 with Hall, McMorris and Kaelin leading the way. On top of that, they will have several young players in 2026 standouts Kaprice Keith, Jermaine Green and Araf Evans Jr. to keep tabs on.
