Dae’Quan Wright and Transfer Influx: New offensive era for Ole Miss football

Veteran tight end Dae’Quan Wright broke out in the latter half of last season.
Wright is a former transfer from Virginia Tech entering his second Ole Miss season. He debuted with 27 catches for 394 yards and four touchdowns. The Rebels won 10 games for the third time in four years.
Wright did most of his damage in the final six games. He totaled 22 of his catches, as well as 323 of his yards and three of his touchdowns.
Ole Miss is in its third full week of spring football practices. The Rebels are replacing over 72 percent of their starting lineup. Wright and junior wide receiver Cayden Lee are the only returning pass-catchers.
Wright, at worst, is the No. 2 option for first-year quarterback Austin Simmons. However, the Rebels added plenty of help in a transfer class ranked No. 2 nationally by On3. Among the headliners was Arkansas transfer Luke Hasz.
“Luke is a very good worker,” Wright said this week. “He comes every day with the same mentality. He goes hard, he talks. He’s a great leader in our room. Us being out there together is going to be real good — having experience and knowing things. He’s funny. He does some crazy things, but he’s a good guy, man. I like being around Luke.”
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Hasz led the Razorbacks in touchdown receptions last season.
He was third in catches. Hasz played in 17 games over two seasons and totaled 42 receptions for 577 yards and seven touchdowns. Hasz, a former 4-star recruit, was the No. 2 tight end in the portal. He chose Ole Miss over Alabama, LSU and others.
Ole Miss also revamped its wide receivers corps with five transfers: De’Zhaun Stribling (Oklahoma State), Caleb Odom (Alabama), Deuce Alexander (Wake Forest), Traylon Ray (West Virginia) and Harirson Wallace (Penn State).
In the end, though, Wright and Co. know Ole Miss in 2025-26 goes as Simmons goes.
“Great guy. Young, but very talented,” Wright said. “Him being in the room with (Jaxson) Dart, behind Dart (and) watching Dart, I think he took over that role very well. He’s still growing.”
Dart was a three-year Ole Miss starter. He’s off to the NFL as the school’s all-time leader in wins (28).
Dart was one of just four players in SEC history with 12,000 total career yards. Simmons received playing time for the first time in his career last season. He completed 19 of 32 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns in nine games. He also rushed five times for 14 yards.
“He’s a very good leader,” Wright said of Simmons. “He talks to his players and gets us right. He picked up where Dart left off. They’re both fun to be around (and) talk to. They both have the same mindset and mentalities when they come to work every day.”
