Commitment decision preview v2: 4-star DL Kamarion Franklin

Ole Miss has been recruiting Lake Cormorant (Miss.) defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin the longest out of anyone in his recruitment. But it always seemed like the Rebels were out on the periphery despite the longstanding relationship.

Well, not anymore.

The Rebels have surged ahead of everyone leading up to his announcement on Saturday. Behind a concerted and consistent effort from defensive coordinator Pete Golding, defensive line coach Randall Joyner and coordinator of recruiting strategy Kelvin Bolden, Ole Miss is now poised to land the top player in Mississippi for the second year in a row.

I have upped my confidence level of my original Recruiting Prediction Machine pick for the Rebels to land Franklin from 60 percent to 80 percent. There were several twists and turns in this one. Most of early 2023 into the spring, it was all Tennessee. Then Alabama and Miami traded blows in the summer. And finally, Hugh Freeze and Auburn came on really strong in August and seemed poised to pull the upset.

But it was the tight-knit relationship with the Ole Miss staff which never wavered. Franklin is seemingly wanting to follow in Suntarine Perkins and Ayden Williams‘ footsteps and “put on for the Sip”.

Kamarion Franklin would be a cornerstone defender for the future for Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss.

If the Rebels land the in-state recruit at 12pm CT, he will be the marquee talent the defense has been missing for the last few years. And he would be teaming up with Ole Miss commits and fellow four-stars Kamron Beavers, Jeffery Rush and Raymond Collins. Not to mention the underrated Houston (Miss.) defensive lineman William Echoles will be alongside him in Joyner’s room, too.

Add in transfer four-star T.J. Dudley at the linebacker position to go alongside Perkins and this front seven in Oxford is all of a sudden shaping up to contend in the top tier in the Southeastern Conference.
