Commitment decision preview: 4-star SG Cam Scott

Lexington (S.C.) shooting guard Cam Scott is set to announce his commitment August 11 at 1pm CT.
The 6-foot-5 prospect has narrowed his scope to Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, and Texas. He will announce his choice live on the On3 YouTube Channel. Scott is the No. 24 overall prospect and No. 7 shooting guard in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in South Carolina.
The four-star guard was able to take official visits to four of his six finalists. Auburn, Oregon, South Carolina, and Texas were able to host him and Ole Miss was not able to. But, sources around the program feel like the Rebels have a great shot. He spoke with On3’s Joe Tipton 16 days out from his decision.
“Being recruited by multiple coaches there, at their previous schools before Ole Miss, I feel like it could be something special for me,” Scott said. “I want to go in there and see how they put all that together and what they are working on for that program to look like. I built a relationship with Chris Beard while he was at Texas and Wes Flanigan when he was at Auburn.”
The in-state Gamecocks currently hold the edge, per his Recruiting Prediction Machine. But no RPM picks have been entered as of this writing. Auburn is in second at 14.8% and Ole Miss is right there with the Tigers in third at 12.6%. One thing to note, now Ole Miss assistant Wes Flanigan recruited him to Auburn.
Cam Scott IS scheduled to officially visit Ole Miss September 30.
Whether or not he picks Chris Beard and Co. a month ahead of his trip, the Rebels will have a shot at solidifying or making its case for his services.
“I want to go somewhere I can just zone out and get better,” Scott said. “For me, player development is going to be big. I’ll be going into an entirely different playing field, so being able to just focus on myself and get better.
“I can see myself playing in most any system, I’m going to pick a school where I can best showcase my talent and feel comfortable.”

Cam Scott became a household name when he started playing varsity in the eighth grade.
He averaged a team-high 15.6 points and six rebounds as an eighth grader. Then in ninth grade, he averaged team-high 16.9 points and 8.5 rebounds. He earned Class 5A all-state and all-region honors in 2020 and 2021. Scott also participated in the 2021 USA Men’s U16 National Team training camp. He averaged 16.3 points during the Chick fil-A Classic during his junior season.
“I’ve become more the heart of the team, carrying the leadership role and being the energy for the team,” Scott told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “My vision has taken a big leap, seeing things before they happen on both ends of the floor. We’re looking for a state championship this season; my goal is always to win as much as possible. I’m watching a lot of Luka Doncic right now, the little things with him – how he gets to his spots, his footwork.”
Scouting Report
“Cam Scott is a lengthy wing prospect with a lot of pop. The natural tools are very impressive all the way around. Scott has a mature game, plays within the flow of the offense, rarely forces things,” Shaw said. “The jump shot release can be cleaned up a little, but the pull-up is smooth. Since the summer, Scott has developed his footwork and handle in the half-court, creating space to elevate into his jumper.
“Scott can take over a game carry his team. Would like to see him develop the comfort to take a more aggressive, alpha role on his teams. He is very efficient in his game, his ability to score with a less is more approach is mature. Strength will come, and he is tracking as one of the top players in the 2024 class.”
