Commitment decision preview: 3-star OL Robby Martin

Commitment decision preview: 3-star OL Robby Martin

Robby Martin will announce his commitment decision Monday evening at 6 p.m.. After releasing a top four earlier this year, the three-star class of 2024 interior offensive lineman is ready to make his collegiate choice.

NC State, Maryland, Penn State and West Virginia all made his top schools list July 23, following an official visit schedule that included stops to see the Wolfpack and the Mountaineers.

His trip to Raleigh went well, and the priority lineman said he meshed well with his potential future teammates.

“I think I fit in with some of the players well,” Martin said.

Based on the most recent intel, NC State put itself in a good position with the Huntington (WV) High star going into this week. He visited campus at least three times during his recruitment.

West Virginia has hosted its in-state prospect more than any other school. If he commits elsewhere, it would likely be to the Mountaineers. He previously had visits set to Penn State and Pittsburgh at one point, but those trips never materialized.

Martin hoped to stop by NC State one more time July 26, but travel complications led to him having to head back home after driving most of the way to Raleigh. The lineman’s obligations with his high school teammates Friday and Saturday prevented him from visiting for the Alpha Wolf Showcase, per a source, but he also had no plans to visit any other programs.

Communication remained positive throughout the week despite the canceled visit. Offensive line coach Garett Tujague is his primary recruiter, taking over his recruitment earlier this year after John Garrison, who originally offered the lineman, left for Ole Miss.

Standing 6-3, 285 pounds, Martin projects as a guard or a center at the collegiate level. The On3 Industry Ranking thinks highly of the rising senior, ranking him the No. 1 recruit in West Virginia, the No. 478 prospect nationally and the No. 37 interior offensive lineman.

West Virginia leads his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 36.9 percent heading into the decision, with NC State in second at 20.3 percent.

What’s next with NC State offensive line recruiting?

Tyler West will be the only prospect remaining on NC State’s offensive line board following Martin’s Monday announcement. The versatile prospect could play inside or outside, but the Pack is interested in him as a tackle, West told TheWolfpacker.com

He visited Georgia Tech over the weekend, which is worrying timing. Earlier this summer, West shared that he hopes to commit Aug. 1. The Yellow Jackets are closer to home for the Andrews (NC) High star.

NC State had a phone call scheduled with the lineman for Sunday, so we will see if that was enough to swing the momentum.
