Commitment Breakdown: What Auburn is getting in Northwestern OL transfer Dylan Senda

Commitment Breakdown: What Auburn is getting in Northwestern OL transfer Dylan Senda

Auburn has added another addition to the roster, this time by way of the transfer portal. Dylan Senda, a 2023 Northwestern signee and enrollee, has committed to Auburn. Senda is a 6-foot-5 305 offensive lineman originally from Dearborn (Mich.) Divine Child.

Senda is still a freshman, so he has not played a snap in college, nor did he make it to any padded practices while at Northwestern. We will take a look at his senior high school highlights and analyze him from there as if he were part of the Tigers’ 2023 class.

Senda is another big addition for Auburn on its offensive line. Here is everything you need to know about Auburn’s newest lineman.

The Senda File

— Senda is strong in his lower body, his deliberate with his steps in the run game and in pass protection, and he is controlled. He carries his 300 pounds and has plenty of control over it. He is not lightning quick, but sound in squaring up defenders and engaging to block.

— Senda never shows that he is struggling. He always has good control in what he is doing. He does not panic when pass setting and keeps things in front of him. He plays entirely too high, but has lots of power and takes control of every opponent.

Auburn fit

— Senda is somewhat of a tweener between guard and tackle. He has the tackle size, but his skillset resembles more of an interior lineman. He is a powerful run blocker and would be well-suited on the interior.

— He is a good pass blocker and surprisingly athletic when playing in space. For those reasons, he could develop into a tackle, especially in an RPO-heavy offense.

Football IQ

— I like Senda as a lead on the combo blocks. He understands how to work in tandem with a fellow offensive lineman and takes over well to help the other lineman climb. He has the power to move players in the combos.

— There is no doubt Senda is strong in this category. He approaches every block with good feet, good hands, and always finishes blocks correctly.

One area for improvement

— Pad level stands out above everything, but that is coachable. Along the same lines of pad level is leverage. Right now, Senda is not winning with good leverage, but rather, his own strength (which is better than anyone he faces). That will change on the next level, especially in the SEC.

SEC readiness

This is a strong pickup for Auburn. He is a smart offensive lineman with a skillset to fit in some different places. More than likely, Auburn has its starting offensive line and key backups in place. Senda is late getting to Auburn, but he could work his way into the two-deep before it is over. He will not play in 2023 is my guess, but he will have a strong chance to compete for and win a spot in 2024.
