Commitment Breakdown: What Auburn is getting in 4-star DB Kensley Faustin

Auburn football has landed a commitment from 4-star defensive back Kensley Faustin from Naples (Fla.). Auburn added Bryce Cain, a receiver from Mobile (Ala.) Baker, earlier Tuesday. It would be an interesting race between the two.

To put it lightly, Auburn just landed two of the most speedy recruits in the country.

Faustin will be on the defensive side.

The Faustin File

Faustin is another smaller defensive back at 5-foot-10 170 pounds, but another speedy one. He is one of the fastest players in the state of Florida, and that is saying something.

His speed is shown on his tape in multiple ways. He breaks on the ball well, he stays in man coverage extremely well, and he can jump around in zone coverage.

Auburn fit

Faustin is versatile, but he best fits at safety for Auburn. The Tigers are looking for more speed at safety and Faustin fits the bill.

Faustin can absolutely play in different spots, but more than like will be the free or field safety in Auburn’s defense. The Tigers want him to be free to roam around on the back end and not have to help in run support too much.

Football IQ

Faustin is one of the better chasers in the class of 2024. It is one thing to have good speed, but the ability to give chase on the crossers and deep routes is an underrated skill. Faustin has it.

He is a safety because he can cover ground in a hurry, but could play other positions due to his ability to play man coverage. That’s part of the chasing, but he plays man coverage with good physicality and good technique.

One area for improvement

Faustin has no problem with aggression, but his size can be an issue when tackling. The physicality is good when in coverage, though.

SEC readiness

Faustin is not a big guy, but he plays big, especially when covering. He is ready to provide depth and help for an SEC program. He is bound to create a turnover when on the field as well.
