Commit watch: More on the way for Kansas State?
Chris Klieman and Kansas State landed eight commitments in June. Who could be the next to commit?
Kansas State tight end target Linkon Cure
The recruitment of Goodland tight end Linkon Cure is winding down.
June 1 is Decision Day for the five-star from the Sunflower State. He’ll announce at a ceremony at his high school. I have liked where Kansas State sits for Cure for about a year and am not changing my pick. I believe he’ll be a Wildcat.
Running back target Monterrio Elston
Like with Cure, I like where K-State is with Arkansas-based running back Monterrio Elston.
The mutual interest has been heavy between the two sides for a bit, and I think Kansas State could secure his services soon. He will also announce at a ceremony at his high school that is set for July 6. Despite being an Arkansas native, I think K-State holds the lead over the Razorbacks.
Defensive end target Shawn Hammerbeck
Another recruitment where I am surprised by the lack of clarity surrounds Winner, South Dakota lineman Shawn Hammerbeck. There is seemingly no buzz about Nebraska, Minnesota, Texas Tech or Kansas State.
All four schools hosted the three-star prospect for official visits. The Red Raiders would take him, but it is a scenario where he may have to be agreed one of five or six offensive linemen in the class. It’s been very quiet about the Gophers. We know K-State and Nebraska are still pushing.
Defensive end target Kade Pietrzak
I think Kansas State has made progress with West Fargo defensive end Kade Pietrzak the last few weeks. In fact, the Wildcats should be considered a viable threat for his services at this point. It is probably safe to still call Oklahoma the leader in the clubhouse, but it isn’t a stranglehold.
Defensive back RJ Collins
A new target to keep in mind is Kansas City, Missouri defensive back RJ Collins. The Staley High product has elite speed. Collins has a top 20 time in the history of Missouri track for the 200-meter dash. After working out at the K-State camp June 23, Collins was offered.
I think it could come together quick between the two sides. He has a unique tie to Kansas State, as his parents met in Manhattan while attending school. His decision should be announced sometime this week.
