Commit Impact: What landing On300 CB Brody Jennings means for Michigan

Commit Impact: What landing On300 CB Brody Jennings means for Michigan

Michigan scored an important recruiting win when On300 2026 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin CB Brody Jennings committed this week.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pounder picked U-M over offers from Kentucky, Florida, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and others.

Jennings is the second member of Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class.

Here are some quick takes on what Jennings’ commitment means for the Wolverines.

1. Michigan’s annual BBQ at The Big House resulted in at least one recruiting win as Jennings gave Michigan a commitment shortly after his visit for the event. The BBQ has always been a momentum building event for the following cycle, and that certainly didn’t change under new head coach Sherrone Moore, who got multiple high end recruits on campus for visits.

2. Jennings is the second commit in the 2026 recruiting class, joining Top 100 quarterback Brady Hart. And yes, Hart did recruit Jennings throughout the weekend. Hart is one of the most talented recruits in the state of Florida and the country next cycle. He made a huge impression on the fellow Sunshine State native and pitched him on why he chose U-M. The Wolverines now have to highly touted prospects and two premium positions.

3. So how did this one happen? Michigan extended an offer to Jennings early on in the process. However, there wasn’t much contact recently as area recruiter George Helow was replaces, and the Wolverines eventually brought on a whole new defensive staff this offseason. New secondary coach Lamar Morgan re-offered Jennings last month, got him on campus and closed on the spot.

4. Speaking of Morgan, he’s done a fantastic job on the recruiting trail despite a lack of P4 experience. Morgan landed two On300 recruits in the 2025 recruiting class and now has another committed in 2026 in Jennings. Morgan hasn’t shied away from going after the best defensive backs nationally, and his aggressiveness on the trail is certainly paying off in a big way.

5. Jennings is the younger brother of former Michigan linebacker commit Branden Jennings, who flipped to Maryland years ago and is now at Mississippi State. I always thought Branden had a ton of talent and natural ability. However, he hasn’t been able to figure things out. If Brody is a similar talent as his older sibling and keeps his head on straight, he can be a terrific player in Ann Arbor.

6. I haven’t been able to watch much of Jennings on tape, so my evaluation is very limited. He has good height at 6-foot-1 and has the frame to add plenty of weight at 165 pounds. Jennings plays with really good technique, which is no surprise since he grew up around the game. His father, Bradley, played linebacker at Florida State and won a national title there.

7. On3 is the highest on Jennings, ranking him as the No. 217 overall recruit nationally. Rivals is the only other service that has him ranked in the four-star range. Both 247 and ESPN have him listed as a three-star recruit. Jennings spent his sophomore year at Sandalwood but has since transferred to Mandarin, one of Florida’s premier high schools. Jennings could rise up the rankings elsewhere if he shines against top competition as a junior.

8. Michigan is doing extremely well recruiting in the state of Florida. Both of Michigan’s quarterbacks commits — Hart and Carter Smith — are from the Sunshine State. The Wolverines has a couple of commits at IMG Academy and also won over On300 defensive back Ivan Taylor out of the Orlando-area. Michigan will continue to attack Florida hard in 2026 and is in the mix for several offered targets.

9. Here are the commits by position

1 – Quarterback
1 – Cornerback

10. Here are the commits by state

2 – Florida
