College Basketball Mad-Libs: AEW, A-Rod, and a Flaming Bus

College Basketball Mad-Libs: AEW, A-Rod, and a Flaming Bus

It’s not yet March, but there’s already a ton of madness in the sport of college basketball. That’s not a specific metaphor for the play happening on the court. There were some WEIRD things happening across the sport over the weekend.

What do Alex Rodriguez, AEW, and a burning bus have in common? College basketball is the connective tissue for this strange mad-libs.

Allow me to explain, starting with the strangest sentence of them all: A-Rod hit a half-court shot at a Bucknell basketball game to win a student $10,000.

First and foremost, shout out to Bucknell for grabbing headlines. It’s the most notable thing the Bison have done in the sport since they sent Nate Sestina to Kentucky. Secondly, why is A-Rod at a Bucknell basketball game? According to the AP, he was on campus for a speaking engagement related to his business, Jump Platforms. The two people he created the company with have close ties to the school. Jordy Leiser is a trustee and Marc Lore is a Bucknell graduate. Thanks to those connections, one student is $10,000 richer. Bank’s open.

And @AROD just made a half court shot during halftime to win a Bucknell student $10,000!! Wow! pic.twitter.com/Bd0vtwQsdQ

AEW Meets College Basketball

I can explain why A-Rod was at a Bucknell basketball game. I have no idea why The Outrunners were dropping elbows on trashcans in the Omaha locker room.

That was the celebration. The former OVW stars got the lads fired up before a college basketball contest against South Dakota. That rousing speech inspired Marquel Sutton to score 36 points and grab 12 rebounds in a 93-85 win that helped the Mavericks secure a piece of the Summit League regular season title.

A Bus Leaves Kentucky and Catches Fire

It was a rough Sunday for IU Indy. Their last hopes at a comeback were dashed, dropping to 5-13 in Horizon League play with a 71-67 loss at NKU. Things got worse once they hit the road back to Indianapolis.

While on the Cincinnati bypass near Lawrenceburg, IN, the team bus suffered a mechanical issue. The bus driver pulled over as they started to see smoke. All of the IU Indy players were able to safely evacuate the bus. They were about a half-mile down the road when the smoke turned into an enormous fire that completely engulfed the bus.

The college basketball players, coaches, and staff were unharmed. However, they lost almost all of their belongings in the inferno. “The most important thing is that everyone was safe,” IU Indy head coach Paul Corsaro told Jeff Goodman. “Things can be replaced. People can’t.”

NEW VIDEO: A WLWT view has shared new video of the IU Indy bus that caught fire while returning from a game at Northern Kentucky University on Sunday. Thankfully, no one was injured. https://t.co/E7Zc054mOz pic.twitter.com/3X616THQpX
