College Baseball Rankings: Predicting D1Baseball Top 25 with massive top ten shakeups

College Baseball Rankings: Predicting D1Baseball Top 25 with massive top ten shakeups

D1Baseball’s top 25 rankings have seen quite a bit of movement over recent weeks, and this week will be no different. While we won’t see our fourth new No. 1 team in as many weeks, we are predicting some big shakeups in the top ten and throughout the rest of the top 25 after a wild weekend of college baseball.

It was a bit of a different-looking weekend, with most series being played from Thursday through Saturday due to Easter Sunday. Ten teams entered their series finale already having clinched the series with a 2-0 start, while six had already lost their series by starting 0-2. Eight teams entered their series finale in a rubber game.

The weekend was headlined by five top 25 matchups. No. 1 Texas hosted No. 8 Auburn, No. 3 Clemson hosted No. 17 Louisville, No. 19 Vanderbilt hosted No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 LSU hosted No. 15 Alabama, and No. 16 Oregon hosted No. 10 UCLA. We also had a pair of midweek matchups between ranked teams; No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 14 Georgia Tech and No. 10 UCLA vs. No. 6 Oregon State.

The top ten is likely to see significant movement in this week’s D1Baseball top 25. Here’s how we expect the rankings to look on Monday morning from 1-25.

1. Texas

Previous Ranking: No. 1
Weekly Record: 4-0
Overall Record: 33-5 (16-2 in SEC)

Texas has built a commanding lead at the top of the SEC. The Longhorns started the week with an 11-4 midweek victory over UTRGV, and then hosted a red-hot No. 8 Auburn team over the weekend. There, Texas had no issues and came away with a series sweep, winning 3-2 on Thursday, 8-3 on Friday and putting a stamp on the weekend with a dominating, run-rule 14-2 win on Saturday to finish the sweep.

2. Clemson

Previous Ranking: No. 3 (+1)
Weekly Record: 2-1
Overall Record: 35-7 (13-5 in ACC)

One of the top series on the weekend slate, Clemson vs. No. 17 Louisville certainly lived up to the hype. The Tigers won Thursday’s opener 7-6, and then held a strong offense to just one run in a 2-1 win on Friday to clinch the series victory. Saturday’s finale went 12 innings, but Clemson fell just short of finishing off the sweep, instead losing 8-6. Still, it was a strong showing for the Tigers, who are likely moving up in D1Baseball’s top 25.

3. Oregon State

Previous Ranking: No. 6 (+3)
Weekly Record: 4-0
Overall Record: 30-7

Oregon State took on No. 10 UCLA in a highly-anticipated midweek matchup on Tuesday, and the Beavers came out on top with a 7-1 victory. They then took a trip to Cal State Northridge and enjoyed more success in a high-scoring weekend. Oregon State put up at least 13 runs in all three games, winning 13-8 on Thursday, 16-11 on Friday and 15-12 on Saturday to secure the sweep.

4. LSU

LSU’s Kade Anderson (32) throws a pitch during the college baseball game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the LSU Tigers at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Okla., Thursday, April, 3, 2025.

Previous Ranking: No. 9 (+5)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Overall Record: 34-7 (12-6 in SEC)

LSU has been on a bit of a rollercoaster in recent weeks, but this week was a good one. The Tigers picked up a 10-3 win on Tuesday against a McNeese team that is a legitimate NCAA Tournament contender. LSU then hosted No. 15 Alabama, winning the series behind an 11-6 win on Thursday and a 4-3 win on Friday. Alabama salvaged a win in Saturday’s finale, but LSU will be moving back in the right direction in D1Baseball’s top 25 this week.

5. Arkansas

Previous Ranking: No. 2 (-3)
Weekly Record: 2-2
Overall Record: 34-7 (13-5 in SEC)

Arkansas’ week started off on a high note, beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 13-3 on Tuesday. The weekend was a different story. Hosting a surging Texas A&M team, the Razorbacks fell 7-4 in Thursday’s opener before evening the series with an 11-5 win on Friday. In Saturday’s rubber game, Arkansas fell again, this time 9-2, to lose the series and likely drop again in D1Baseball’s top 25 rankings.

6. Florida State

Previous Ranking: No. 7 (+1)
Weekly Record: 1-0
Overall Record: 29-7 (11-4 in ACC)

Florida State battled in-state foe South Florida on Tuesday, earning a dominant 19-0 victory. The win improved the Seminoles to 29-7 on the season. The tragic shooting on FSU’s campus on Thursday led to all athletics events being postponed, so the Seminoles did not play against Virginia as scheduled.

7. Oregon

Previous Ranking: No. 16 (+9)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Overall Record: 27-11 (14-7 in Big Ten)

Oregon’s week began with a 12-1 win at Georgetown on Monday, but the headline was over the weekend vs. No. 10 UCLA. The Ducks came out strong, winning a 2-1 pitcher’s duel in Friday’s series opener. UCLA won on Saturday 14-4 to even the series, but the Ducks responded with a 10-6 win on Sunday to take the series, and move back up in D1Baseball’s top 25.

8. Tennessee

Previous Ranking: No. 4 (-4)
Weekly Record:  2-2
Overall Record: 33-7 (12-6 in SEC)

Tennessee kicked off its week with a 13-3 win over Bellarmine, and then hosted Kentucky in what turned out to be a pretty good series over the weekend. One of the few Friday-Sunday series on the slate, Tennessee won Friday’s opener 8-2 before Kentucky won 4-1 on Saturday to set up a rubber game on Sunday. There, Tennessee lost again, this time 8-2, to drop the series.

9. North Carolina

Previous Ranking: No. 12 (+3)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Overall Record: 31-9 (13-8 in ACC)

North Carolina continues to climb back up in the rankings. The Tar Heels’ week started with a 14-4 win against Charlotte on Tuesday, and then turned into a pretty wild weekend series at Virginia Tech. UNC won 9-6 on Friday, but then fell 10-6 on Saturday in a game that was full of high tension and ejections. All eyes then turned to Sunday, where UNC won 7-4 to take the series.

10. UC Irvine

Previous Ranking: No. 13 (+3)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Overall Record: 28-9 (16-2 in Big West)

The Big West has turned into a fun conference this year, and UC Irvine is a big reason why. Despite a 15-5 loss to Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, the Anteaters bounced back with a strong series sweep against a good Hawaii team over the weekend. UC Irvine won 3-1 on Thursday, 4-0 on Friday and 5-0 on Saturday, with back-to-back complete game shutouts to end the weekend.
