Coach’s take: What Miami Hurricanes are getting in Judd Anderson

2024 3-star Georgia QB Judd Anderson commits to Miami, becomes Hurricanes’ first position commitment of cycle

Miami has landed its quarterback commit for 2024. What are the Hurricanes getting in 3-star Judd Anderson?

Despite just visiting Coral Gables for the first time last week, the Miami Hurricanes newest quarterback commit, Gray (Ga.) Jones County Judd Anderson, had been building a relationship with head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff for quite some time.

So when the three-star prospect announced his commitment to Miami Friday evening, Jones County High School head coach Mike Chastain was pleased to learn that his QB1 was headed down south to play for Cristobal and the Hurricanes.

“He’s been talking with them for a long time,” Chastain said. “He really liked those guys and has developed a great relationship with them for a few weeks now.”

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 217 pounds, Chastain believes Anderson’s size is one of his biggest strengths, which explains why programs such as Miami, Ole Miss, North Carolina, and more were chasing after his services.

“He’s a really good kid that has all the intangibles and is a student of the game,” Chastain said. “His upside is through the roof, and he’s all of 6-foot-6; he’s one of the biggest kids I’ve ever coached. He’s an extremely hard worker who has continuously worked on his game and is becoming a much better passer.”

While Anderson’s size may be a big reason for his success in his career thus far, Chastain adds that Anderson’s mind and understanding of the game may be as good if not better.

“Just his mind, and he’s really good at picking up the playbook and processing the information on the field,” Chastain said. “His hard work and his leadership is something that’s going to carry him a long way. He has a strong faith and loves the Lord. He’s a very humble kid and I enjoy coaching him, I really do.”

During his junior campaign, Anderson threw for 1,776 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, and completed 57% of his passes. While those numbers may not jump out at you, Chastain believes Anderson’s work ethic and desire to get better will be the reason he succeeds at the next level.

“There’s no one area that I think he needs to work on,” Chastain said. “He just needs to continue to work on everything, and there’s no doubt that he has. He’s been with us for just over a year now, and I think he’s improved every day, and I think he’s going to continue to do that.”

Overall, Chastain is extremely excited for his quarterback and believes that Anderson will be an exceptional player for the Hurricanes.

“They’re getting a great young man and a guy that really loves the game,” Chastain said. “He’s very cerebral and picks things up quickly. He’s an extremely hard worker, and he understands how to lead and direct traffic on the field.”
