Clemson trending for one of the nation’s top defensive linemen
Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy four-star defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler has been on recruiting radars since his freshman year, when he was named a MaxPreps Freshman All-American after his standout first season.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder has raked in scholarship offers from across the country and become of the nation’s top players at his position. But Brown Shuler is getting close to a decision, he told On3’s Jeremy Johnson earlier this week.
“I feel like we’ve you’ve been in it as long as I have, it’s just one of those things where I’ve had my fun and I’m kind of just ready to shut it down,” Brown-Shuler told On3. “My biggest thing is, I want to focus on my senior season with my guys. I don’t want to be worried about talking to this coach or talking to that coach. I just want to know where I want to go and be done with it.”
Among the main contenders for Brown-Shuler over the past year have been Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and South Carolina.
And while he gives high marks to all four programs in recent interviews, one program is trending according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
Clemson in pole position to land Brown-Shuler
Clemson holds a significant lead in the On3 RPM and has ever since On3’s Chad Simmons was the first to place a prediction in the Tigers’ favor back in early January.
“I like where Clemson stands, really ever since he released his list of top schools,” Simmons said. “He has family in South Carolina, and they’ve made him a priority early on. He’s been there multiple times for games, for junior day visits as well. There’s strong communication with Lemanski Hall and the staff there; it’s also close to home in Atlanta. And they do a great job of recruiting the state of Georgia — it’s very important to them.
… There are other schools in the mix. But right now, it’s kind of Clemson and then everybody else. They’re the school that’s been trending and they’ve only been picking up momentum over the past few months.”
The Tigers have had major success recruiting defensive linemen in Georgia over the past few years, especially since poaching defensive line coach Nick Eason from Auburn. Already in 2024, Clemson has a commitment from On300 Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek’s Champ Thompson. And in 2023, the Tigers pulled both Vic Burley and Stephiylan Green — a pair of top-five prospects in Georgia — away from the Peach State.
Brown-Shuler is the No. 153 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 19 defensive lineman and the No. 26 recruit in Georgia.
