Clemson players coming off a redshirt to watch out for in 2023

Clemson players coming off a redshirt to watch out for in 2023

Clemson had several true freshmen come in and immediately make sizeable contributions in 2022.

Receiver Antonio Williams, right tackle Blake Miller and linebacker Wade Woodaz were among the members of the class of 2022 who had a big role for the Tigers in their first season on campus.

While a handful of players turned out to be immediate contributors, several other members of the class of 2022 could be counted on to play a major role this upcoming season.

We take a look at five Clemson players coming off of a redshirt to watch out for in 2023:

WR Cole Turner

Turner is an easy choice after the way he ended last season. The Alabama native was the only receiver on the roster to record a 100-yard game last year, finishing with three catches for 101 yards in the ACC championship game against North Carolina. He also pulled in four passes for 51 yards in the Orange Bowl against Tennessee.

Turner is one of the top two or three fastest players on the team, according to Dabo Swinney. He has a chance to earn a starting role for 2023. At the least, he should be a critical player off the bench.

TE Josh Sapp

The Greenville native and Clemson legacy wasn’t a highly-rated prospect coming out of Greenville High, but he is a player the Clemson staff is excited about. Sapp is a versatile piece on offense who has good size and speed, is an excellent blocker and can also make plays in the passing game.

He has a chance to be the No. 2 tight end for the Tigers this season, behind breakout candidate Jake Briningstool.

LB TJ Dudley

Clemson is loaded at starting linebacker with Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter Jr., but the Tigers entered the spring without much depth behind those two. Defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin challenged linebackers behind Carter and Trotter to step up and prove that they could be reliable this spring. Dudley did just that and has Clemson filling much better about its depth at linebacker exiting the spring.

OL Collin Sadler

An injury early last season forced Sadler to redshirt, but the staff is still very excited about the local product’s future. Sadler has a chance to earn a starting job before the start of the 2023 season if he develops and continues to make strides this summer and during fall camp.

At the least, he should be a backup who the coaching staff trusts.

RB Keith Adams Jr.

Line linebacker, Clemson has a pair of studs at running back but not much depth behind them. After redshirting last season, Adams is a player who will be counted on to provide depth this fall behind Will Shipley and Phil Mafah.

Adams had an excellent spring, capping it with a strong performance in the spring game. The Clemson legacy is big, strong and explosive and could be the No. 3 back this fall. Adams rushed 11 times for 50 yards and a touchdown during the spring game.
