Class of 2025 No. 2 OT Josh Petty visiting Auburn on Thursday

Roswell (Ga.) future five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty will visit Auburn football on Thursday.

Petty, who is ranked the No. 12 overall recruit by On3 and No. 16 by the On3 Industry Ranking, announced his visit plans Wednesday night on Twitter.

“Going to Auburn (Thursday),” Petty wrote. “Can’t wait to see campus.”

According to his On3 profile page, it will be Petty’s first visit to Auburn. He has visited Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina this spring.

Academics are and will be important to Petty, especially on visits. He doesn’t want to see just football facilities.

“On visits, I care about the degree,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I will look a lot at the education. Also, I am definitely looking at the coaching staffs and how they treat their player. I also want to play in front of a great crowd, so the game day is important to me too.”

Auburn offensive line coach Jake Thornton is leading the Tigers’ recruitment of Petty.

Petty surging up recruiting boards, rankings

Petty has surged up the recruiting rankings this spring. He’s also surged up colleges’ recruiting boards.

In the past six weeks, Petty has received several offers. Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Florida State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, South Carolina and Penn State are just some of the offers he’s netted lately.

“I am excited for this,” he told On3. “I dreamed about being a recruit like this, so getting the offers, taking these visits and starting this process is exciting for me.

“Coaches see that I am a very athletic and aggressive guy. They said they see me pancaking the defensive linemen, and they like my height and how I am a hard hitter, too.”

Petty, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, is ranked the No. 16 overall recruit, No. 2 offensive tackle in the country and No. 4 recruit in Georgia. Those are rankings from the On3 Industry Ranking, an industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Georgia Tech currently holds the advantage, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Obviously it’s still very early in Petty’s recruitment, but the in-state Yellow Jackets are at the top at 21%, followed by Georgia at 18.5%, Auburn at 16% and Tennessee at 13%.

Don’t sleep on the Vols.

“My dad is a big Tennessee fan, so growing up around him, he instilled that in me,” Petty said. “I have been watching Tennessee since I was a kid and like Tennessee a lot. I loved watching Joshua Dobbs throw the ball when I was a kid and watched him throw that Hail Mary to beat Georgia and that was exciting. Tennessee’s atmosphere is electric, and I know everyone knows Rocky Top up there. I am really excited to get up there and see what it is like.”
