Class of 2025 DL Abu Tarawallie talks top four; final decision
Michigan State 2025 defensive line target Abu Tarawallie, of Minneapolis (MN) Providence Academy announced his top four schools on May 31, ahead of a busy slate of official visits this month.
Tarawallie (6-4, 275), who holds offers from Oklahoma, Penn State, Kansas, and others, narrowed his list down to Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kansas State. He will take official visits to each finalist in June, beginning with Michigan State on June 7.
The defensive lineman will visit Minnesota on June 14, along with Kansas State on June 21. He is working to schedule a midweek trip with Wisconsin as well.
The defensive tackle was offered by the Spartans defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa shortly after his hiring to the Michigan State staff. Tarawallie visited East Lansing for an unofficial visit in April during spring practices.
Tarwallie is ranked a three-star, the No. 826 overall recruit in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 72 defensive lineman, and the No. 5 recruit in Minnesota.
He breaks down his top list with SpartanMag.com, revealing his plans for a summer decision date as well.
“I want to make my decision by August, definitely before my season,” Tarawallie said. “First and foremost, I am just looking to see if my family likes the environment and the people. I have been talking to mom and my brother a lot, also my defensive line coach, I have been talking to him a lot. We have come to those four because of how genuine they feel and how much they put into me. I know they will care.
“Besides that, I am looking for a good school that values academics just as much as football. At the end of the day, football is going to end, so I would say those are the top two things I look for.”
Michigan State: “I just really like how communicative they are. They will always reach out and see how I am doing. (The coaches) talk to my mom and family a lot, so I like how they stay in touch with me.
“I really like Coach Legi. He is very chill when he needs to be, but he knows when to turn it on. I like that he can have fun when it is time to be fun, but is serious when it is time to be serious.”
Wisconsin: “I have been up to Wisconsin three times, twice for a game and once for practice. They just got a new defensive line coach, Coach (E.J.) Whitlow. I went up there to talk to him. I really like him. I can tell by talking to him and how he talks about his players and family, I can tell he is very family oriented. That makes me happy to see he cares about the people around him.”
Kansas State: “That will be first trip there. I actually have never been to Kansas State. I have been talking to Coach Tui (Mike Tuiasosopo) a lot. He reminds me a lot of Coach Legi, and he reminds me of my defensive line coach, he is very chill, very funny, always cracking jokes, which makes me feel very comfortable if I were to go play for him. I would fit right in.”
Minnesota: “I have probably been up there about 10 times already. I really like talking to Coach (Winston DeLattiboudere III). He is definitely one of my favorite coaches. He is like an older brother. He always has advice, always has something to say. I also like talking to Coach Fleck. He is always very humorous, always cracking jokes. Every time I go up there it is a great visit.”
