CLASS IMPACT: Oregon Lands 4-Star Offensive Lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu

2025 Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman offensive lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu just announced his commitment to Oregon on Wednesday. Dan Lanning and the Ducks are now up to 16 verbal commitments following Kalaniuvalu’s pledge.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks continue to stay hot on the trail here in July and I’m taking a look at how this addition impacts Oregon moving forward.

More Juice at Offensive Line for A’lique Terry

Kalaniuvalu is the third offensive line commit for Terry this cycle, joining Ziyare Addison and Demetri Manning in the 2025 class. He projects to play along the interior of the offensive line, potentially as another great center for the Ducks.

With the way this class is shaping up, Oregon would probably like to add another commitment or two along the offensive line, while also looking to the transfer portal to find further reinforcements should the Ducks lose both of their book end tackles in Ajani Cornelius and Josh Conerly Jr.

Recruiting Trail Impact

Bishop Gorman is one of multiple national powerhouses that Oregon continues to build a pipeline to. Kalaniuvalu is the second Gael player in the last two years to commit to the Ducks, with the last being 2023 safety Kodi DeCambra. He has since transferred to UNLV.

Building long-lasting connections with top programs is important for any program, but for Oregon specifically they’ve made it a priority to recruit players from Mater Dei, St. John Bosco and Bishop Gorman, the three most consistently dominant programs in the Western region.

Having pipelines like that will only continue to elevate Oregon’s recruiting appeal and national reach moving forward. Kalaniuvalu’s pledge adds to an Oregon class that ranks No. 4 nationally according to the On3 rankings.

Mission Trip Expected

As our Justin Hopkins has been reporting on the site, Kalaniuvalu is expected to take a two-year mission trip before beginning his college football career. So even though he’s a part of Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class, he won’t join the team until the 2027 season.

We’ve seen a slight increase in Oregon players/commits taking mission trips, with 2024 5-star Burley (Idaho) wide receiver Gatlin Bair currently serving on his mission trip in Texas after signing with the Ducks.

Who’s Next?

With the offensive line starting to fill out, there’s a small group of names for fans watch at the position moving forward.

Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake offensive tackle Juan Gaston is the biggest name. He’s scheduled to announce his college commitment on August 2 and will choose from a top group that includes Oregon, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

There’s also pair of Utah’s finest in Aaron Dunn from Spanish Fork and Austin Pay from Lone Peak in American Fork. The sate of Utah has been very kind to the Ducks in recent years bringing in players like Jackson Powers-Johnson and Jeffrey Bassa.

Gaston is probably the biggest priority of the bunch, but there’s still some quality options for the Ducks along the offensive line moving forward.
