Clark Lea explains expectations for team following lengthy weather delay
Vanderbilt’s Week 0 matchup against Hawaii was delayed for over an hour due to weather. It took some time, but the game officially got underway just past 8:10 p.m. CT.
As both teams emerged from the locker rooms, the SEC Network team covering the game caught up with Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea to get the Commodores headman’s thoughts and expectations for the team following the lengthy weather delay.
“Well, we mature team. The weather delay, I mean, that’s disruption of process,” said Lea. “Obviously, Game 1 in college football, this is our first real test against someone else. So we gotta be a mature team; we got to actualize the progress. Hawaii’s not going to make it easy, and I believe in the guys, but we gotta go make it happen now.
“We stayed engaged. They really just hung out. There was some recovery and some mobility circuits and stuff like that. But on the whole, they’re ready to be out here and play. Now, it’s about the details and performance. So yeah, it should be a great game.”
Vanderbilt started off the 2022 season strong, 2-0, with one of those victories coming against Hawaii in their season opener. That victory against the Rainbow Warriors was on the road. Lea is looking for a similar result this year, but this time on the Commodores home field. And Vanderbilt’s level of maturity following that lengthy weather delay will play a role in whether or not they leave Week 0 with the victory.
