Charlie Woods jabs dad over ‘Eye of the Tiger’ TGL entrance

Charlie Woods jabs dad over ‘Eye of the Tiger’ TGL entrance

In true Tiger Woods fashion, his entrance for Tuesday’s TGL event was a sight to behold. Through a wall of smoke, he walked out to “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor – putting the crowd on its feet.

However, not everyone was impressed. Woods’ son Charlie had a rough review of his dad’s entrance to the second night of TGL.

Tiger Woods was the last of the Jupiter Links GC team to be introduced to the crowd at the SoFi Center. Kevin Kisner and Max Homa went first, setting the table for the legend – and TGL co-founder – to round things out. It was quite the way to get things started.

To Charlie Woods, though, the entrance was fairly predictable – but not because of the song choice. Instead, he thought his dad wouldn’t look very comfortable walking out of the tunnel. That’s exactly what he saw happen.

“Let’s discuss Tiger’s walkout,” ESPN’s Marty Smith said on the broadcast. “This was a wonderful moment, a great reminder of his influence to so many millions of us. But I talked to Kis and Kis told me, he has never been that cool in his entire life. I also went up to the Jupiter Links box and talked to Charlie Woods – Tiger’s son, who you just saw there on the broadcast. He’s incredibly disappointed, Mattie.

“He said, ‘Dad did exactly what I thought he was going to do,’ which was be something awkward-ish. He gave him a four out of 10 on the walkout. Tiger, you’re the greatest of all-time. We’ve got to work on the walkout for next time, boss.”

Despite the rough entrance – well, in Charlie’s eyes – Tiger Woods got the crowd buzzing with his opening tee shot. He threw the hammer down right away, meaning the hole would be worth two points, and proceeded to stripe it down the middle as Jupiter Links took on L.A. Golf Club Tuesday night. However, they halved the hole, meaning neither team got points.

Tuesday marked Woods’ debut in TGL, and his co-founder Rory McIlroy will make his first appearance Jan. 27 when Boston Common GC takes on Jupiter Links. That will put the two head-to-head as the innovative event continues to give golf a new look in the exhibition format.
