Class of 2024 wide receiver Charlie Becker had a chance to make his first visit to Iowa City this past week. The 6-foot-3, 198-pound Nashville native left campus thoroughly impressed with the Hawkeyes.
“It was awesome,” Becker told HawkeyeReport.com. “We toured all the football facilities and I got to meet with all the coaches. It was really cool to finally see everything that Iowa had to offer.”
Becker, whose father Dave played football at Ohio State, received a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes in early May. The visit to campus this past week gave the family a chance to learn more about the academics at Iowa in addition to the athletics.
“Not only did we tour the football facilities, but we went to see the campus and the actual school, which was really outstanding,” Becker said. “The campus was absolutely beautiful.”
Before leaving Iowa City, Becker got to have a one-on-one meeting with head coach Kirk Ferentz and is now working on scheduling a return trip to campus for an official visit in June.
“I had a great meeting with Coach Ferentz, which was very helpful, and I was just grateful for the opportunity,” said Becker.
After touring Iowa, Becker made a trip to Indiana on Friday and up next has an official visit scheduled to Northwestern on June 2. Those three schools are currently in his top six along with Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and Appalachian State.
A three-time state champion in track his junior year, Becker has been timed at 4.44 in the forty yard dash. This past fall, he finished the season with 54 catches for 697 yards and 16 touchdowns for Father Ryan High School.
