Carson Beck injury update: Mario Cristobal provides latest on rehab process

Carson Beck is steadily moving forward in the rehab process but Miami head coach Mario Cristobal isn’t exactly sure where the QB will be 100%. One thing’s for sure, Beck won’t be throwing the spring game.
Cristobal previously said Beck was ahead of schedule. That seems to be the case still, but there’s no definitive return date for Beck.
But at least he’s attacking his rehab at this point and learning the playbook. Cristobal seemed encouraged by his new quarterback.
“I don’t know. I know he’s throwing some other things, you know, he’s doing those other rehab contraptions, those balls or whatnot, and it’s right there,” Cristobal said. “I mean, we feel great about it. He’s taking part, not only in walkthrough, but also in team … drills and allowed to hand the ball off for every progression … relentlessly watching film, excited about him … I think you know what I’m saying, we’re getting there. He won’t throw in the spring game.”
Beck transferred to Miami after suffering a season-ending UCL injury on the final play of the first half of Georgia’s win over Texas in the SEC Championship. He would not be able to participate in the College Football Playoffs, and opted to test his luck in the transfer portal after the Bulldogs’ season concluded.
Beck finished the 2024 campaign with 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns while throwing 12 interceptions. Now, Beck is diligently working on his recovery, but is the presumed starting quarterback for the ‘Canes for the 2025 college football season.
Coral Gables quickly came up as a possible destination for Beck after On3’s Pete Nakos first reported he planned to hit the open market. He officially entered the portal Jan. 9 with a do not contact tag. That news came 12 days after Beck announced he was declaring for the draft – a decision that generated some strong reactions.
He also led the SEC with 12 interceptions last season – nine of which from Week 6 to Week 9. That’s one issue many had with Beck after he decided to declare for the draft. Cleaning that up for his final season of eligibility against ACC competition could go a long way in improving his draft stock for this time next year.
