Carreon Helps Team to Tough Win on Tough Night
SCHERTZ, Texas – It doesn’t matter how talented you are, how much you can physically overwhelm your opponents – sometimes, it’s just not your night. For Odessa, Texas four-star receiver, and Sooners commitment, Ivan Carreon he fought through something of a tough night recently.
And yet even on a night where he had to fight through things not going his way he had a touchdown catch and a last-second field goal for a 31-28 win.
The Sooners summer time commitment has been one of the more interesting prospects to follow as many have tried to peg him as a tight end. And though the Sooners have had success with players like Carreon, Mark Andrews notably, through the years tight end doesn’t seem to be the current plan.
On the night the 6-foot-6, 195-pound prospect had two catches for 26 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown catch. But beyond those moments largely played the role of a decoy as Odessa’s ground game chewed up the Clemens defense. For Carreon it’s just about doing whatever his team needs to help them to a win. And knowing that the Sooners commit knows that even a few drops won’t stop him from impacting the game.
“It’s good just knowing that. If they put two on me, double me the whole night, other people are going to be open,” Carreon said. “We’ve got too many people that they can’t guard so they are going to leave the box open and we’ll just run it down their throats.”
Carreon expects to be in Norman this weekend for the Iowa State game as he continues to build his relationship
“We’ve got a good relationship, we’re always texting here and there. He’s asking about games and my parents,” Carreon explained of Sooners assistant coach Emmett Jones.
NOTES:
*The name that stood out on the night was Odessa’s Dejuan Green. He’s a physical runner with great feet and impressive balance. Green, as of yet isn’t getting a lot of attention but could be one of the late risers we often see at running back.
