CaneSport Inside The Lines: Up close with Mark Fletcher

The Miami Hurricanes running backs room got a powerful addition after spring practice when true freshman Mark Fletcher enrolled. The 4-star out of Plantation American Heritage has his eyes on a strong freshman season, and is looking to compete to start in a loaded RB room that also includes returning starter Henry Parrish, Nebraska transfer Ajay Allen, Don Chaney and fellow freshman Christopher Johnson (TreVonte’ Citizen remains out rehabbing a torn ACL).
Today marks Fletcher’s first practice at Miami, and stay tuned to CaneSport today for all the feedback off fall practice No. 1.
“I’m very excited, blessed, happy to be here,” Fletcher said. “I’m not going to take this opportunity for granted.”
Miami Hurricanes offense under Shannon Dawson will take running backs-by-committee approach
Fletcher says he sees a very explosive offense coming under new coordinator Shannon Dawson.
“Watch out!” he says, adding of his anticipated role as “a big playmaker, somebody who just runs people over, runs past them, catch the ball out of the backfield. Special teams (too) – any way, anything coaches want me to do.”
Fletcher has a great combination of physicality and quickness relative to his size. He says Miami coaches want to keep him under 230 pounds “and I’ve been maintaining that at 225.”
Fletcher says he changed the way he eats and feels faster and stronger.
“It’s going really well,” he said “I promised coaches they are going to get everything out of me – special teams, pass protection, any way I can (make the team) better. I’m just here to play football. I’m just ready.
“I’m just here to contribute any way I can.”
Fletcher says so far the transition to the college level has gone well, and that he’s picked up the playbook well.
“It’s real football now (with fall practice starting), not just working out, learning plays,” Fletcher said. “It’s time to hit somebody.”
