The Longhorns (33-17) won their third straight game and the posted their sixth victory in eight contests since being swept by Oklahoma in a three-game series at home April 21-22.

Charlie Hurley (4-0) pitched five strong innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

Hurley was followed to the mound by David Shaw, who surrendered a hit and a walk and picked up a strikeout in two innings, Heston Tole (a walk in one inning) and Kobe Minchey, who pitched the final inning and gave up three runs (two of theme earned) on two hits, a walk and a hit batter.

Brown paced the Texas 12-hit attack with three hits, three runs and two RBI, while Powell, Garret Guillemette and Eric Kennedy added two hits each. Thomas and Campbell both drove in a pair of runs in the win.

The Mavericks (25-22) were led by Tyce Armstrong, who had three of Texas-Arlington’s eight hits.  Andrew Lucas (1-2) took the loss for Texas-Arlington, lasting just 1.2 innings and allowing three runs on one hit and four walks.

Powell homered over the right-field fence, his eighth of the year, with one out in the first inning to stake the Longhorns to 1-0 lead.

Texas expanded the margin to 3-0 in the second inning when Campbell punched a two-out bases-loaded single to centerfield off the Mavericks’ Thomas Kuykendall that drove home Rylan Galvan and Thomas, both of whom had walked, and increased his team-record hitting streak.

Campbell had already extended his on-base streak to 33 games with a base on balls in the first inning.

Galvan’s groundout to third base in the third inning plated Brown to push the margin to 4-0. The Mavericks responded in the fifth, scoring twice off of Hurley via a double-play ground out by Matt Cavanaugh and a two-out single to left field by Sam Crowell.

Texas answered in the bottom of the frame as Jack O’Dowd singled home Eric Kennedy and Brown and chased Kuykendall in favor of Hunter Marshall. The Mavericks’ third pitcher walked Jalin Flores before Thomas deposited his two-run homer over the right-centerfield fence to push the Longhorns’ advantage to 8-2.

Texas-Arlington added three window-dressing runs in the ninth on an RBI hit by pitch with the bases loaded and an error on a potential game-ending double-play grounder.

Texas returns to the field on Friday at 6:30 CDT when it hosts San Jose State for the first of a three-game series. Saturday’s game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with first pitch for the Sunday finale set for just after 1 p.m.
