Cam Ward shares message he gave Titans scouts at Pro Day: ‘That should be all they need to see’

Cam Ward shares message he gave Titans scouts at Pro Day: ‘That should be all they need to see’

The Tennessee Titans finally got their chance to see Cam Ward throw in person during Miami‘s Pro Day on Monday.

Ward lit it up — as most quarterback prospects have and will continue to do. But one particular throw made the highlight reels. Ward spun out to his left and fired one downfield to Xavier Restrepo. He dropped it in a bucket to the former Hurricanes wideout. Representatives from the Titans, who own the No. 1 overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft, were watching and Ward knew exactly where they were. He turned to them and confidently sent a message.

“I said, ‘I’m solidifying it today.’ They finally got to see me throw in person. That should be all they need to see,” Ward said.

Ward has every reason to be confident. Tennessee needs a quarterback. Ward is the consensus top signal-caller in the Draft. The Titans did not seriously address the position in free agency, leading most to believe Ward will be the pick come April 24 in Green Bay.

Ward, 22, is coming off the best season of his college career this past fall, his first and only in Coral Gables. The Incarnate Word and Washington State transfer threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 67.2% passing. He also ran for 204 yards and four scores. Ward finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Adam Schefter reveals latest on Tennessee Titans draft plans, chances of taking Cam Ward

Ward feels like the No. 1 pick at this juncture. ESPN‘s Adam Schefter would agree.

“Tennessee, I’m sure, is going to listen to aggressive offers from teams trying to get up to No. 1, but right now if we follow the breadcrumbs, they point to Tennessee holding that pick and taking the quarterback Cam Ward from Miami,” Schefter this past Tuesday on SportsCenter Special: Mel Kiper Jr.’s Mock Draft 3.0. “Looking at what they did in free agency, the only quarterback they signed was Brandon Allen, not very experienced and not very productive at the NFL level.

“Look at the offensive linemen they signed, they signed left tackle Dan Moore that will allow them to move last year’s first round draft pick JC Latham over to right tackle, and they also added the veteran guard Kevin Zeitler — two big offensive line additions that necessitate three changes on the offensive line building up to take a quarterback. That’s certainly what it seems like, and Cam Ward, right now, is tracking to be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.”

Ward would surely like to be the No. 1 overall pick. But if Tennessee has other plans, Ward will be just fine.

“But at the end of the day, whether they want to go with me with the pick or not, I’ll be happy whatever team I go to,” Ward said. “I’m just trying to play football.”
