Detroit (Mich.) – 2024 Garden Grove (CA) Warren four-star wide receiver Jordan Ross took an unofficial visit to Michigan State yesterday, May 30. The 6-foot, 175-pound recruit was on Wayne State’s campus today (June 1) for the Sound Mind Sound Body national college showcase camp.
Ross is the No. 265 recruit in the country, according to the 2024 Industry Top Football Recruits. He is also the No. 40 wide receiver and the No. 24 recruit in California.
Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins offered the four-star recruit back on July 29, 2022.
“I mean we are getting very close, I love that,” Ross told SpartanMag.com. “I love how he’s treating me like family. He’s treating me like one of his own that’s what I love about a coach even if the others aren’t showing up. It is just him that I need. That’s the receiver coach that I need connection with. Everything else is good.”
“I went to Michigan State yesterday. It was a great experience,” Ross said of the trip to East Lansing. “I couldn’t see much of Michigan State because they were building a new building, so it was just a lot of stuff that I’ve seen that caught my eye.”
While in East Lansing, Ross got a look at the incoming facilities, along with a tour of campus. He also sat down with Hawkins and had a quick conversation with head coach Mel Tucker.
“We toured the campus a little bit,” Ross said. “Just to look around, tell me where they’re putting their new stuff at. Rebuilding this and that. The locker room is nice. I talked to the coaches, went to the coaches offices. That was really it. We just had a long talk, you know, not just about football, but about my outside life as well.”
“I mean, it’s a huge campus,” Ross said. ”I’m probably going to get lost around there. But it is a huge campus and a very nice clean campus. I loved it.”
Ross also visited Ann Arbor during his time in Michigan and is looking to possibly take official visits to both schools.
“Definitely two schools that I would love to look into and take official visits,” Ross said. “Michigan State, I mean, they’re showing lots of love. That’s one thing I like about a college is when they show a lot of love.”
“I might (come back to) Michigan State and Michigan, possibly this month. I’m going to make sure I do it this month for sure, if not then I’ll probably try next month. But you know it’s unlimited official visits, so I’ll just try my best.”
Michigan has not yet offered the four-star, who does hold offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Auburn, Washington, Utah and more.
“Michigan, they’re doing the same thing. I’m waiting on that offer. I mean, there’s not much I can say. I love it out here, no doubt.”
As for what Hawkins likes about his game, the answer is easy for Ross and the wide receivers coach. Michigan State is looking for speed in the 2024 class to pair with wide receivers Jaelen Smith and Azaiah Johnson in the 2023 class.
“He just likes how quick I am, how patient I am,” Ross said. “I burst into my route. He just wants to see more explosiveness after the catch. I will work on that myself. I just love how he gives me a run down on how to fix myself to be a better athlete.”
Ross met with Tucker who made a strong first impression as the four-star is looking forward to a further conversation on his official visit.
“First, I mean, he’s very real,” Ross said. “He keeps everything real. He’s funny sometimes, but he does like to be serious. He’s a very serious guy.”
The four-star has not yet set his official visit date, but already knows what he is looking forward to seeing on his next visit to Michigan State.
“I want to learn more about the environment,” Ross said. “Just basically roam the campus as if I am one of the college students and that’s really it. I want to feel like I’m at home, that is all.”
