California 4-star OL DeAndre Carter confirms plans to attend Auburn’s Big Cat

Four-star offensive lineman DeAndre Carter visited Auburn football in June and now plans to return to the Plains in July.

Carter, who is from Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Calif., has booked his reservations to attend the Tigers’ Big Cat recruiting event.

Auburn will hold Big Cat on Saturday, July 29.

“I’ll be there,” he told Auburn Live.

Carter’s visit for Big Cat will come six weeks after his official visit, which he took June 16-18.

“It went really good,” Carter said after the visit. “I loved it a lot. My first time being here, pretty much everything stood out. It was a pretty big eye-opener for me. It was very big family-oriented. I loved the coaches, loved their energy, loved what they want to do with the program, so yeah everything.

“I hear from Auburn a lot,” he said. “I talk to pretty much everyone: Coach (Hugh) Freeze, Coach (Jake) Thornton, Coach Ben (Aigamaia) … a lot of them. They are definitely making me feel like a priority. It feels really good knowing that they’re coming after me so hard.

“I could definitely see myself at Auburn.”

Proximity to home not a priority for Carter

Although from California, Carter believes the transition to life in the South would be an easy one.

“I feel like I could fit in pretty nicely,” Carter said. “I was talking with players and they were telling me how I could come in and help out pretty much early on. Really I meshed with them really well too.”

Attending college close to home is not a priority for Carter. His top three schools are Auburn, Texas and Michigan State.

He’s taken official visits to Auburn and Michigan State and has one scheduled to Texas for Sept. 29-Oct. 1. A decision, however, could come before the visit.

“I’m not 100% sure on a set date,” he said. “I’m still doing my research and stuff and seeing how everything shakes out. I was thinking I would do it early in the season, but I might push it up a little bit. It might be August, but I’m just playing it by ear.”

Carter, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 340 pounds, is ranked the No. 146 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks the No. 9 interior offensive lineman in the country and No. 16 overall recruit in California.
