Caden Prieskorn is excited about the depth in the Ole Miss tight end room

When senior Ole Miss tight end Caden Prieskorn is asked about the depth of the Rebel tight ends, his face lights up like it’s Christmas morning and he just got a new bicycle.

“This is by far the most depth I’ve ever been associated with in college,” Prieskorn said, who is a preseason All-SEC selection. “We’ve got eight guys in the tight end room and they all bring value to the table.”

Besides Prieskorn, the prominent, experienced tight ends are junior Hudson Wolfe and Virginia Tech transfer junior Dae’Quan Wright, who is now healthy after being limited in spring drills.

“It’s great seeing Hudson healthy. He’s had a great summer and I’m so happy for him to be healthy because he has battled back issues for so long,” Caden continued. “Dae’Quan has come in here and worked hard, doing the right things in the weight room. He’s pushed Hudson and me, which is a good thing. The way he works in the weight room and on the field, we have a lot of similarities.

“Dae’Quan has done a good job of learning the offense and he builds on what he has learned every day.”

Prieskorn also has praise for the true freshman on board, Dillon Hipp, a 6-6 240-pounder who was at Ole Miss during spring but was also limited due to injury.

“Dillon has the potential to be a really good player. He works hard and learns quickly, but he’s got to go through the learning curve like all freshmen,” Prieskorn noted. “He’s got good size and a good work ethic and that’s a great start to a college career.”

According to Caden, nobody is a finished product. He has things to work on also.

“I think I did a lot better job this offseason of taking care of my body and getting better prepared for the season. I have always tried to do that, but this offseason I think it clicked more,” he continued. “I did extra work, extra treatment, watched my diet. I feel really good running and feel I am in my best shape.

“I tried to lose a little weight, which has helped my running, and I am even a lot stronger than I was when I was heavier. I am now about 257 from 265 and I feel great.”

Prieskorn has two “jobs.” He’s a football player by day, so to speak, and a dad by night.

He’s got a 3-year old son named Mac and a 3-month old girl named Romy.

“They are everything to me,” he closed.

Prieskorn caught 30 passes for 449 yards and 4 touchdowns a year ago while playing in 10 games after injuring his foot in fall camp and missing a couple of outings. A third of his catches came against Penn State in the Peach Bowl win.

It took him most of last season to “feel like myself again.”

Now, fingers crossed, he enters his final collegiate season in great health and great spirits.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has always been known for using the tight ends at his disposal liberally.

With Prieskorn, Wolfe and Wright, he’s got legitimate options this season.
