BREAKING: Micah Mazzccua announces intention to enter transfer portal
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators were dealt a huge blow on Thursday. Baylor transfer Micah Mazzccua announced that he intends to re-enter the transfer portal when it opens again on May 1.
“Appreciate Coach Napier and his staff but I feel it’s best for me to put myself back in the portal,” Mazzccua wrote on Twitter.
Mazzccua was projected to be the starting left guard for the Gators when the season opens in 2023.
PFF Grades for Micah Mazzccua
Mazzccua was graded the No. 41 offensive guard in terms of pass blocking by Pro Football Focus. He allowed just one sack and 11 pressures in pass protection — numbers that sit just behind Torrence’s zero sacks and eight pressures — to be rated as one of the top guards overall in college football in 2022 by PFF.
Despite his 6-5, 331-pound frame, Mazzccua has shown stamina playing in Baylor’s uptempo offense. He played in at least 70 snaps in six of his 11 appearances, including an astounding 91 plays against Texas Tech.
Mazzccua also was a great run blocker for the Bears last season. He posted the 15th-best run-blocking grade among qualifying guards (min. 20% of maximum snaps played by a guard in the FBS) per PFF. His 76.9 run-blocking grade led the conference for his position. He also allowed just one sack, two quarterback hits, and 11 pressures in 367 pass-blocking snaps last season.
