BREAKING: Florida 4-star DB Kensley Faustin commits to Auburn: ‘It was an easy decision’

BREAKING: Florida 4-star DB Kensley Faustin commits to Auburn: ‘It was an easy decision’

Four-star defensive back Kensley Faustin has committed to Auburn football.

Faustin, who is from Naples, Fla., announced his decision Tuesday on social media. He chose Auburn over offers from Florida State, UCF, Miami and Florida, among others.

“I love it at Auburn,” Faustin told Auburn Live. “It was an easy decision for me.”

Two big reasons why are Hugh Freeze and Zac Etheridge.

“Just talking to Coach Zac and Coach Freeze … just going over film with them was big for me,” Faustin said. “They showed me how I would fit in the defense. They didn’t tell me … they showed me. That meant a lot to me. With Coach Freeze, I believe he is a great man and is going to be a great coach. He’s honest.

“Coach Zac is a cool guy. We have the same mindset. He was telling me the truth and being brutally honest with me. That was very important. He’s been there, walked the same hallways. He can tell me what to expect.”

It also doesn’t hurt that Auburn is in the SEC and offers early playing time.

“(Early playing time) is very important to me because I’m a mid-year,” he said. “I’m going to graduate early. I’ll be (at Auburn). They’re recruiting me to play DB, anywhere they need me.”

Faustin, who is listed at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, is ranked the No. 375 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Ranking. He also ranks the No. 33 safety in the country and No. 54 recruit in Florida.

Faustin is the second commitment of the day for Auburn. Slot receiver Bryce Cain announced his commitment to the Tigers Tuesday afternoon. Faustin also is the third four-star defensive back to commit to Auburn, joining A’Mon Lane and Jayden Lewis.

2 strengths, 1 area for improvement on Faustin

From Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston…

2 strengths

Faustin, at least on the high school level, is a ball hawk. He roams the field and jumps in passing lanes with good quickness and has a good read on the quarterback’s eyes most of the time. This could be why he had 7 interceptions in 2022. That’s an impressive number.Faustin is smaller, but can move around the field nicely. He is fluid with his hips and quick to get from A to B.

1 area for improvement

Faustin needs to be a better tackler to play safety on an SEC level. His coverage skills are next level, but his tackling needs improvement. Some of that is size while some is willingness to stick his nose in for a physical play.
