Breaking down Nebraska’s top remaining 2024 targets

Breaking down Nebraska’s top remaining 2024 targets

Nebraska entered a new era when Matt Rhule came to town last November. In a short time between the time he arrived on campus to National Signing Day, Rhule helped the Cornhuskers put together a top-30 class.

Now recruiting his first full class, Rhule’s gotten the Cornhuskers off to a fast start landing several top names including keeping several of the state’s top recruits home. As much success as they’ve had, the Cornhuskers still have a way to go before solidifying their 2024 class.

HuskerOnline recruiting insider Bryan Munson helps us break down who the five biggest names remaining on Nebraska’s recruiting board are right now.

5-star OT Brandon Baker

School: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 22
On3 RPM: Oregon 89%

Munson’s Take: “The No. 1 industry-ranked OT in the country is considering visiting Nebraska officially. There isn’t a more straightforward path to the field for Brandon Baker out of the top 10 schools than at Nebraska. Baker feels at home in Nebraska and has a great connection with the Nebraska staff. If Baker visits look at a date in mid to late September.”

4-star RB Nathaniel Frazier

School: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 45
On3 RPM: Oregon 29.7%, Alabama 25.9%, USC 11.4%, Georgia 9.5%, Washington 5%, Nebraska 5%

Munson’s Take: “The On3 No. 1 ranked running back in the nation visited Nebraska in the spring. Nathaniel Frazier visited Nebraska with Baker for the big junior day at the end of March.  Nebraska made the top eight list for Frazier, and he may also want to take an official visit to Lincoln in the fall. Nebraska would welcome any opportunity to host Frazier again in the fall.”

4-star IOL Grant Brix

School: Logan (Iowa) Logan-Magnolia
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 75
On3 RPM: Nebraska 72.%, Kansas State 8.3%, Oklahoma 4.5%

Munson’s Take:Grant Brix took an official visit to Nebraska the last weekend in June, and following that trip, he wanted to get back to some normalcy. Recruiting has been overwhelming, and he wanted to enjoy part of his last summer at home. If you asked me, Brix is down to four, and the Huskers are leading. However, Nebraska fans shouldn’t be holding their breath waiting for him to commit. Brix hasn’t ruled out taking another official visit this fall before deciding.”

3-star EDGE Devoux Tuataga

School: Eagle Mountain (Utah) Cedar Valley
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 629
On3 RPM: Oregon 42.5%, Tennessee 10%, Nebraska 8.6%, BYU 7.1%, Utah 7.1%, Arizona 7.1%, Oregon State 7.1%, USC 7.1%

Munson’s Take: “Nebraska is still in need of a pass rusher in the 2024 class. Devoux Tuataga will be in Lincoln next week for one day. His visit next Friday will be for an unofficial visit.  He will make a round of official visits in the fall and then plans to announce his decision in November. The Huskers have had a visit set up with Tuataga several times in June, but he had to cancel because of his busy schedule. The visit next week is critical for the Huskers to remain in the picture with Tuataga.”

3-star CB Amare Sanders

School: Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 669
On3 RPM: Nebraska 98.4%

Munson’s Take: “Nebraska hosted Amare Sanders the first weekend in June. Sanders took the trip with Jacory Barney, who eventually chose Nebraska over Miami and others. And with seven defensive backs already committed to Nebraska in the 2024 recruiting class, the Huskers could make Sanders their eighth. Sanders wants to commit before the start of his season, which could be anytime between now and September.”
