Breaking down Michigan’s most important remaining 2024 targets

Breaking down Michigan’s most important remaining 2024 targets

It would be hard to name a program who has put together a more impressive spring and summer on the recruiting trail than Michigan, which has whopping 26 commitments in its 2024 class and sits at No. 5 in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings. With the help of 17 blue-chip recruits, the Wolverines have thus far put together the second-best class in the Big Ten.

Still, there is plenty of work to be done before signing day, and the Wolverines have plenty of elite recruits on their big board.

TheWolverine.com recruiting insider EJ Holland helps us break down the five biggest names remaining on Michigan’s recruiting board right now.

4-star WR Gatlin Bair

School: Burley (Idaho)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 39
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM): Michigan 71.9%, Oregon 9.2%, TCU 6%

Holland’s take on Gatlin Bair: “Michigan has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine and is in good shape following his official visit last month. However, a multi-day visit to Boise State next week looms large. Boise State is pushing hard to keep him close to home. Still, Michigan is the superior option. Oregon is an X-factor.”

4-star OT Bennett Warren

School: Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Christian
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 157
On3 RPM: Michigan 80.9%, Texas A&M 4.5%, Oklahoma 3.9%, Houston 2.4%

Holland’s take on Bennett Warren: “Warren named Michigan his leader in the spring before backtracking. He did the same following his official visit in June. Both Tennessee and Texas A&M have made strong runs as of late with Oklahoma also involved. There is still some work to do for Michigan to regain momentum in this recruitment, but U-M does remain a frontrunner.”

4-star CB Aaron Scott Jr.

School: Springfield (Ohio)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 42
On3 RPM: Ohio State 95.9%, Michigan 1.2%

Holland’s take on Aaron Scott Jr.: “This one is down to Michigan and Ohio State with a decision quickly approaching (July 30). Ohio State is the heavy leader on the On3 Prediction Machine and is definitely the safe pick. However, Scott is on record saying he prefers Michigan’s scheme. The Wolverines also have a glaring need at the corner position. U-M still believes it has a shot in this race.”

4-star S Zaquan Patterson

School: Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 80
On3 RPM: Miami 92.8%, Michigan 2.4%

Holland’s take on Zaquan Patterson: “Michigan is in a heated battle with Miami for Patterson. The Top 100 prospect made unofficial visits to both schools last month and is expected to do the same during the brief break from the dead period. Miami is the heavy leader on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but Michigan has made things very interesting as of late.”

5-star WR Ryan Wingo

School: Saint Louis (Mo.) University
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 24
On3 RPM: Texas 34%, Tennessee 19.3%, Notre Dame 14.7%, Georgia 12%

Holland’s take on Ryan Wingo: “Michigan is on the outside looking in for Wingo, but the Wolverines did host the five-star pass catcher for an official visit last month. Texas has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but Wingo does plan on taking his recruitment into December. That’s a plus for Michigan, which will look to impress him with another strong season on the field.”
