Bowling Green beats Bryan Station 36-22 to win second consecutive game
In Week 1, Bowling Green took on the Frederick Douglass Broncos, the No. 6 team in KSR’s Kentucky High School Football Top 25. With the game taking place at WKU, it was practically a home game for the Purples, and surprisingly, you couldn’t tell that based on the scoreboard. Mark Spader’s squad walked away from that game with a 35-13 loss.
However, the following week, Bowling Green dominated Owensboro, winning that one 35-14 in decisive fashion. Week 3 served as a chance for Bowling Green to really put themselves on the map again by taking down No. 22 Bryan Station in a neutral site game.
As for Bryan Station, however, they desperately needed a win against Bowling Green considering their 0-2 start. Of course, the Defenders took on Trinity (Louisville) and Boyle County to start their year — the two best teams the Bluegrass has to offer. So, a lot was riding on the line in this high-profile matchup.
On3’s Massey Ratings predicted a 34-24 victory for the Purples in this affair, and in the end, Bowling would capture a victory over Bryan Station, winning 36-22.
Bowling Green would start this one with a 10-point lead following a Deuce Bailey touchdown through the air as well as a field goal, but the Defenders refused to go away easily. Sophomore Jordan Haskins did his best to put his team on his back, breaking free for a touchdown early in the second quarter.
At the half, it would be 10-7 Purples, and it was uncertain how much football we’d see following the first two quarters. During the second quarter, a storm raged its fury over LCA, blowing over tailgates and shaking the goal posts. Of course, rain would follow, and the weather would ultimately be a huge factor in this one.
In the second half, but teams opted with the ground game, but Bowling Green saw more success pounding the rock. Junior tail back Jaxen Smith would punch the ball in the end zone for the Purples, opening up the lead a bit. Bryan Station was forced to attempt to move the ball through the air because of the deficit they were in.
After a rapid response from Bryan Station, Deuce Bailey would find junior Montravion Graham in the end zone to put the lead back up to 10. Then, just four minutes later, he would drop a dime to junior Trevy Barber to make it 31-14 Purples.
A Bowling Green scoop-and-score would make it 38-14 — the largest point differential we’d see between the two teams on Friday night. However, junior Taeshawn Adams would help make the final score look a bit better on paper for the Defenders as he leaped high for a touchdown reception.
Bowling Green won their second consecutive game, while Bryan Station fell to 0-3 for the first time since 2022. Of course, their first three games have all been tough, but for being runner’s up in Class 6A last season, the Defenders sure have started slow in 2024.
As for Bowling Green, they’ll look to stay on track when they take on the Apollo Eagles on the road next week.
