Boogie Fland Putting Recruitment on Back Burner as He Tries to Win Peach Jam

Boogie Fland Putting Recruitment on Back Burner as He Tries to Win Peach Jam

Boogie Fland is the nation’s No. 7 overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, with schools like Kentucky, Oregon, Alabama, UConn, Michigan, North Carolina, and others on his trail.

However, this week, Fland only has one thing on his mind.

“Right now, I’m just worried about Peach Jam,” Fland told KSR+. “I’m trying to win every game, trying to win the championship.”

Fland, the 6-foot-3, 175-pound point guard from Archbishop Stepinac (Harlem, NY) has helped lead the PSA Cardinals to a 3-1 record at Peach Jam through Thursday with 10.3 points per game. He is also averaging 1.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

“I tried to come here and show out,” Fland said. “I had to take it step by step with my team and show them everything I’ve got. Through this journey, you go through a little adversity, through ups and downs. It’s about how you come back from those and how you learn from them.”

Fland said that this week he’s trying to show people that he’s a “leader” and a “fighter.”

“Even when the shot’s not falling, when I’m not scoring, I’m contributing in other ways,” he said. “I’m a good teammate. I’m clapping on and off the court. I’m making sure everyone on my team is good and I’m doing the little things.”

Boogie Fland’s Recruitment

While Boogie Fland has put his recruitment on the back burner, that hasn’t stopped colleges from making their push, Kentucky included.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari and assistant Chin Coleman were both in on Friday to watch Fland and the PSA Cardinals face Billy Richmond and the New Jersey Scholars.

“That they want me at their school,” Fland said. “I’m going on a visit soon, September or something like that.”

Fland is hoping to see several things on a visit.

“[I want to see] what everyone is like, what the campus is like, and if I feel comfortable at the school,” he said. “Some schools are not for you and you just have to accept that. The ones that are, you’ll know.”

Fland doesn’t have a timetable for a commitment, saying “when I feel it’s right, that’s when I’ll do it,” although he did list several things he’s looking for in a program.

“The play style, the chemistry,” he said. “Some people like to think about one-and-done, but can I spend all four years there if I want to, if I feel comfortable?”
