Blue Chips: The latest on four-star Colorado DB commit Alex Graham after visit to Michigan

*** Four-star Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive back Alex Graham committed to Colorado over Michigan in April. However, as expected, Graham is leaving the door open. Remember, Graham’s mother went to Michigan, and he’s originally from Detroit. He grew up around the Michigan program and has visited a ton. Graham returned to Michigan last week and told me this about his time on campus: “It was good. I’m glad I finally got to meet the new coaches that just came in this spring.” The staff movement was a big reason Graham committed to Colorado in the first place, so getting to know guys like new secondary coach LaMar Morgan and new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is important to him.

*** Martindale stopped by IMG Academy in the spring, but Morgan was unable to do so. This visit gave Graham his first chance to meet Morgan face-to-face. Here is what Graham told me about Morgan: “Coach Morgan is an amazing person. From being a father to a coach on the field, he’s a great guy. I could definitely learn a lot from him” It will be interesting to see how much Graham and Morgan develop their relationship over the next few months.

*** As mentioned, Graham basically grew up around the program and has been to U-M on numerous occasions. He knows multiple players on the current roster, and this visit gave him a chance to connect with fellow Michigan natives like Will Johnson, Rayshaun Benny and Jacob Oden. Graham is also close to a pair of commits in the 2025 class in three-star offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn and On300 running back Donovan Johnson. Both play with him at IMG and committed to U-M over the weekend, which caught Graham’s attention. Here is what he had to say about it: “I’m happy for them. Michigan definitely just got some new DAWGS on their side.”

*** Graham is one of the top defensive backs in the country when he is healthy, but injuries have plagued him over the last couple of years. Graham’s junior film was extremely limited, and he did not participate in spring ball. I still get the sense that Morgan and company want to see him live. With that said, if Michigan does end up going all in here, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Wolverines flip him away. Here what Graham said when I asked where Michigan stood in his recruitment: “I’m committed with Colorado but there’s still a lot of love for Michigan”
