Blue Chips: Mother of Top 100 WR Talyn Taylor talks Michigan BBQ visit

I caught up with Venus Taylor, mother of Top 100 2025 Geneva (Ill.) Community wide receiver Talyn Taylor, following their weekend visit to Michigan for the BBQ at The Big House.
Here are some highlights from the interview.
On her overall thoughts on the visit:
“Everything was great. Everything went very well. It was a unique situation for us because it was our first time getting to know Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and the staff. A lot of people that had been there before had seen the staff a little more than we had, so it was a great opportunity to sit down with them. Coach (Ron) Bellamy did a great job of showing Talyn how he would utilize him in the offense. The overall impression was really good. Michigan is a national contender. They want to compete for a national championship, and they get some of the nation’s top talent. It’s a very structured program and very disciplined. It was good to see the culture overall and get a feel for it up close and personal.”
On their meeting with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh:
“It was great. We actually sat down with him for a while. It’s always interesting when you get in these positions because you don’t know how they really are. But we talked about everything from NFL draft picks — who on his current team is going to the NFL and who they’ve already sent — to Ted Lasso (laughs). It was a wide array of conversation. We really enjoyed it and had a good time. He has a lot of personality.”
On Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy:
“Very solid initial impressions. The great thing was Talyn got a chance to work out with him on the field for a short amount of time. They probably all wish it would have been longer. He communicated really well. In a short window, he really helped them understand some things they could work on to help improve their games for the upcoming season. He’s a very personable person. He took the time to personalize everything and break it down for Talyn. He had all his clips from high school up and showed him things he’s doing and things they already do at Michigan that are similar. He was very thorough and very personable with us.”
On what else stood out about Michigan:
“Academics are always going to make an impact with me as a mom. I think education is really important. Michigan has done a great job as a public university with their research, education and sports programs. They are leading the way in a lot of areas. Obviously, I’m impressed by that. Just the culture. You can tell the players there are used to being leaders. It’s always impressive to see that. The more players you have leading the way outside of the coaches, the more things run smooth. It’s a very disciplined program, and that goes all the way to the strength and conditioning. There is great leadership.”
On how Taylor would fit in at Michigan:
“Talyn is ready to play at the highest level. He sees himself there. He sees himself becoming an NFL draft pick. I think he would do really well on that stage. I think he would do well with the people around him. There are people there that we know like the Morris family. Tyler Morris will be starting this year. I’Marion Stewart is getting ready to go there. They are phenomenal players in the area that stand out. He has a really good relationship with them. Talyn is sharp, but he’s only going to sharpen his tools by being around coaches and players that can compete at that level.”
On their Chicagoland connections:
“They are amazing people. They have great things to say about the University of Michigan and the people running it. That weighs heavy with us because we think they are phenomenal people and phenomenal families. I’Marion, Tyler and Quinn (Morris), who also has an offer, are great players, teammates and people. Everyone wants to surround themselves with great people, and we already know those families are great people.”
