Blue Chips: Michigan still in mix for elite QB, late riser to watch in 2024
*** As mentioned, the Michigan staff has been hard at work watching senior film. One name that recently popped up to keep a close eye on is three-star 2024 Palo Alto (Calif.) Archbishop Riordan offensive tackle Kalolo Ta’aga. The West Coast prospect was previously committed to San Jose State but recently backed out of his verbal pledge to San Jose State. Ta’aga does have Power Five offers from the likes of Arizona State, Cal, Florida and Utah. Michigan is closely monitoring and if the Wolverines pull the trigger, I would expect U-M to be a factor in this recruitment moving forward.
*** Obviously, Michigan already extended an offer to one late senior riser in On300 2024 Kansas EDGE commit Deshawn Warner, who notched a U-M scholarship over the weekend. Warner hasn’t gotten back to us with quotes of his own but from doing some digging around, I would be surprised if he doesn’t make an official visit to Michigan before signing day. Michigan staffer Dylan Roney has a preexiting relationship with Warner and is leading the way in this recruitment. In fact, Roney first identified Warner in the late winter/early spring. There is familiarity here, which should help. We’ll know more once Warner makes his way to Ann Arbor.
*** All eyes are on five-star Belleville (Mich.) High quarterback Bryce Underwood as a decision approaches in January. However, Michigan quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell is keeping in close contact with other options, including Top 100 2025 Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy signal-caller George MacIntyre, the No. 13 overall prospect next cycle. Let me preface this by saying that I believe Alabama has the clear lead here. However, Michigan is in the next tier with schools like LSU, Tennessee and UCLA. MacIntyre may visit Michigan for the game against Ohio State in November. Remember, he has already been on campus in the past.
*** Michigan recently made the Top 8 for Top 100 2025 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei linebacker Nasir Wyatt. Michigan is in the mix for several elite linebackers next cycle — it’s a really strong year at the position — and Wyatt is high on the board. Area recruiter Jay Harbaugh saw him in the spring and position coach Chris Partridge has been in contact. Michigan is working to get him on campus soon, but this one is going to be a tough battle. USC is considered the early favorite and schools like Alabama, Oregon and Texas are high on his mind as well. I would say U-M is on the back half of his list.
