Big-time WR Daylan McCutcheon visits Notre Dame for the first time
Back in an article published Feb. 14, Blue & Gold introduced the name Daylan McCutcheon to Notre Dame fans after hearing that the Fighting Irish staff had strong interest in him.
A month later for the staff’s Pot of Gold recruiting day, McCutcheon announced that he picked up an offer from Notre Dame, coming from receivers coach Chansi Stuckey.
“At the start of my recruitment I didn’t think I was going to get Notre Dame, but over time I started talking to them more and more,” McCutcheon told Blue & Gold. “I expected to get offered soon.”
And McCutcheon, a class of 2025 wide receiver out of Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy, set up a midweek visit for Notre Dame April 6.
“I wanted to visit Notre Dame to see what the coaches and the school had to offer for me,” McCutcheon said.
And coming off the trip, McCutcheon, who ranks as the nation’s No. 62 prospect and No. 11 recruit per the On3 Industry Ranking, has nothing but good things to say about the Fighting Irish.
“I was able to see the campus, talk to the coaches, have a photo shoot and watch the team practice,” McCutcheon. “What I enjoyed the most was being able to see how the practiced.”
McCutcheon enjoyed conversations with the Irish staff, especially Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey.
“They are really cool people,” McCutcheon said. “One message from them is that coming to this school will help me not only in football but long term outside of football. Plus, they said not to rush anything, enjoy the process, work hard and don’t rush the results.”
Coming off the Notre Dame visit, McCutcheon plans to stay in state this weekend and visit Purdue. He’s also scheduled to check out South Carolina April 15.
On3’s own rankings have McCutcheon, who stands at 5-11, 170 pounds, as the nation’s No. 118 overall player and No. 19 wide receiver in the country for the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Oklahoma, Penn State, Miami, Southern Methodist, Ole Miss, West Virginia and Tennessee are among McCutcheon’s other offers. The Sooners currently are out in front of his recruitment according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
McCutcheon has also visited Texas A&M and Oklahoma this spring.
The rising junior plays at the same high school as Notre Dame class of 2024 linebacker target Payton Pierce.
