Big-time pass-rusher ‘intrigued’ by USC

Big-time pass-rusher ‘intrigued’ by USC

One of the best EDGE rushers in the entire nation for the 2025 class made a bus trip with his high school team to Columbia early this week to participate in camp sessions with the Gamecocks.

Grimsley High in Greensboro is home to Bryce Davis, who had nothing but positive things to say about his time in Columbia during a follow-up conversation with GamecockCentral.com.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder raved about his experience working with Carolina assistant coach Sterling Lucas during the day’s o-line/d-line camp.

“It was great. He’s a great dude. He has a great resume as well,” said Davis. “He coached six years in the league, played at NC State, so he knows a lot. That was great and he was teaching me. I was just trying to be a sponge in that moment, just learning. He pushed me pretty hard, kept telling me to do more reps. It was really good to work with him.”

Aside from the camp experience, Davis had an opportunity to get a feel for what it would be like to be a football player for the Gamecocks by milling around campus a bit.

“The family atmosphere around there, too. All the players were just there, enjoying themselves,” he said. “We actually ran into Nyck Harbor, he was doing his orientation stuff there. It was cool seeing him there. The campus was really nice, too, so that intrigued me a lot.”

Davis is rated by the On3 Industry Ranking as one of the top prospects in the country for the 2025 class. The metric, which is an equally weighed average of rankings from all four major recruiting services, has him as the number 50 prospect overall for the cycle.

The On3 Industry Ranking also tabs Davis as the number 8 EDGE prospect in the country as the third-best prospect in the state of North Carolina for the 2025 class.

Up next for Davis – who recently participated in the Under Armour Future 50 event last weekend – a planned stop in Georgia in late July.

There are a few programs that Davis pinpointed as standing out in his recruitment at this juncture.

“Most definitely Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina did a great job on the top of that list, Tennessee, and I would say Florida right now,” he said.

In order for the Gamecocks to have an opportunity to land Davis at the end of the process, he will have to be convinced of a few key points.

“I want to fall in love with the place. I know coaches can change a lot, but I’m not trying to go to college to just stay the same,” Davis explained. “I want to go into a program that’s going to develop me a lot, and also has a good academic program.”
