Big day at Miami camp lands 2025 WR Vernell Brown III an offer from the Hurricanes

Big day at Miami camp lands 2025 WR Vernell Brown III an offer from the Hurricanes

During Miami’s final 7-on-7 competition of the summer, the Hurricanes hosted a handful of elite prospects from across the state of Florida, but by the end of the day, Orlando (Fla.) Jones High School wide receiver Vernell Brown III stole the show.

The fast-rising 2025 wideout was easily the most impressive athlete at the camp and quickly earned an offer from the Hurricanes after helping his team earn the 7-on-7 title.

“I got a chance to come out here with my team and compete against a lot of good talent in South Florida,” Brown told CaneSport. “I got a chance to compete with these guys, and obviously cream rises to the top and Jones came out on top. It feels great to get an offer from another Florida school. I’m from Florida; I grew up in Florida, so it feels good to have that offer from the last Florida school.”

Extending the offer to Brown was Hurricanes wide receivers coach Kevin Beard, who quickly pulled him aside early in the day after watching him in his first few contests.

“Coach Beard is a really good guy and taught me a life lesson in the midst of all of it,” Brown said. “He asked if I loved the game of football and gave me a lesson about it; after that, he watched me play, and as soon as the game ended, he offered me.”

When asked about Miami, Brown, who is a Florida legacy, believes the Hurricanes are trending in the right direction in year two under head coach Mario Cristobal and is intrigued to see how things go this year.

“They’re up and coming, and I think there are some big things in the works here,” Brown said. “We’ll have to see how it pans out, but I like the way Miami is looking.”

As of late, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver has seen his recruitment pick up rapidly and says programs such as Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio State are schools that have caught his attention early on. He also goes in-depth on what he’ll be looking for in a potential suitor down the road.

“Just the people in the building, because that’s what it all boils down to,” Brown said. “Everywhere has nice facilities and whatnot. Also, development at the position The goal in college is to take that next step to the NFL, so wherever can get me ready for the NFL is where I’m going to be.”

As far as Miami, Brown says he would love to continue to grow his relationship with the Hurricanes and is looking forward to seeing how things go with the wide receivers at Miami this upcoming season.

“Coach Beard is a great guy, so I want to see it get backed up on the field with winning games and putting people in the draft,” Brown said.

CaneSport’s take

Brown is an extremely twitchy and explosive playmaker who has caught the nation by surprise after an explosive spring and summer on the 7-on-7 circuit. Despite being unranked by On3, Brown is a legit Power Five prospect who many believe will be making big plays on Saturdays. Miami has taken notice of that and jumped in the mix early with several other top programs across the country.
