BBNFL Week 16: Wan’Dale Robinson sets career best in season receiving yards while wearing Kentucky gear

BBNFL Week 16: Wan’Dale Robinson sets career best in season receiving yards while wearing Kentucky gear

In the fantasy football world, there is (used to be?) a stereotype that wide receivers break out during their third year in the NFL. While I’m not sure that’s entirely true and Wan’Dale Robinson wasn’t exactly an every-week starter in fantasy, he has officially set his career-best in receiving yards during Week 16.

Robinson needed three yards to surpass last year’s total of 525 for the year and against the Falcons, he put up 62 on seven receptions, the second-most catches he has in a single game all year. With two more games left in the regular season, he could flirt with 700 total yards.

What makes this accomplishment even better is that he did it wearing custom Kentucky-themed thigh pads. The subtle uniform touch featured his initials and the state outline on his left leg. I have no need for thigh pads at this point in my life but would still buy these.

Back to his actual play on the field, Wan’Dale’s receiving stats are impressive because the Giants never send him down the field. When he was at Kentucky, Robinson ran short routes, long routes, and everything in between. In New York, he has been primarily used as a dink-and-dunk slot receiving with the team leaning on his Rob Dillingham-like shiftiness to evade defenders in the open field. He never fully broke one open this season with the longest catch of the year being just 25 yards.

Robinson didn’t score in the Giants’ 34-7 loss to Atlanta, but he does have a career-best in-season touchdowns this year…with two. It would be great to see Wan’Dale get an opportunity for an organization less awful than the Giants, but he continues to put up respectable numbers for the G-men.

Former Kentucky defensemen made several big plays this week

The Detriot Lions’ defense has been decimated with injuries this year, but former ‘Cats Josh Pascal and Za’Darius Smith, who was acquired at the trade deadline, are still holding down the front line well. Paschal and Smith combined for 10 QB pressures on Sunday in the Lions’ 34-17 route of the Chicago Bears, making life tough for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

On the topic of pass rushers, Bud Dupree‘s still got it. The veteran picked up another sack on Thursday Night Football, giving him six on the season for the Chargers. This ties for the 4th most sacks in a season in this, his 10th year in the NFL.

One week after coming away with his first-career interception, Carrington Valentine forced a fumble on Monday Night Football in Green Bay’s 34-0 blowout of the Saints.

Other BBNFL Notes:

As reported earlier in the week, Will Levis did not play on Sunday for the Titans. He was benched last week in the third quarter as Tennessee appears to be lost in general but shout out to former Wildcat, Bryce Oliver, who has turned a practice squad position into a weekly staple on the active roster.

Ray Davis continues to be a nice complementary piece to the Buffalo Bills’ offense. He had 39 scrimmage yards on six touches in the Bills’ victory over the Patriots.

With Austin Eckler out, Chris Rodriguez continues to serve on the active roster for the Washington Commanders. He only had three rushes for five yards, but the Commanders upset the Eagles 36-33.
