Baltimore Ravens waive QB Anthony Brown

Baltimore Ravens waive QB Anthony Brown

Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown’s time in Baltimore with the Ravens might have just come to an end. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Ravens have waived Brown as a part of their trim down to the 53-man roster requirement.

Despite being cut from Baltimore’s main roster, the former Oregon quarterback showed strides in his game during the preseason. In Baltimore’s three 2023 preseason games, Brown completed 35 of his 47 pass attempts, completing nearly 75 percent of his passing attempts for 464 yards passing, 22 yards rushing, three passing touchdowns, one rushing, and just one interception. But despite the improvement in his game, Brown has found himself among the Ravens players who will not be a part of their 53-man roster, at least to start the season.

As per the norm heading into the start of the season, several players find their names on the chopping block. Also named in the Ravens’ recent roster moves was fellow backup quarterback

More on Brown

Brown was an undrafted rookie free agent signee by Baltimore last season following the 2022 NFL draft Out of Oregon. He initially spent the first four years of his collegiate career at Boston College, from 2016 to 2019, before transferring to join former Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal‘s roster in 2020. Brown didn’t play much in his first season at Oregon, seeing action in just two games. But in 2021, he was the Ducks starting quarterback, leading them to a 10-4 record.

Last season in Baltimore, Brown saw a limited amount of action, playing in two games and starting one. This was after both MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley missed time dealing with injuries late in the season. In the two games he played in, the former Ducks quarterback completed 22 of his 49 pass attempts for 302 yards, 0 touchdowns, and two interceptions.

As mentioned above, Brown’s time in Baltimore may not be entirely over. Suppose another team does not elect to sign him and add them to their 53-man roster. In that case, there is a strong possibility he could return to the Ravens as a member of their practice squad.
