Some things just never get old. Former Auburn cornerback Chris Davis’ “kick-six” to defeat Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl ranks at the top of this revered list.

The Auburn social media team didn’t hesitate to remind the whole nation of the unforgettable moment. All it took was On3 providing them the perfect opportunity.

“Who has that one College Football video?” On3 tweeted.

You can guess what came next. Thirty-seven seconds of unfiltered Tigers glory. For those unaware, first off, I’m sorry. Second of all, let me explain.

The play heard ’round the world

With the 2013 Iron Bowl tied at 28-28, Alabama lined up to attempt a gutsy 57-yard field goal with one second remaining. The kick looked good until the end, coming up just short and being fielded by Davis in the back of Auburn’s endzone.

What happened next was magic. The 5-foot-11 senior returned the kick 109 yards to the screams of crazed Auburn fans, defeating the Crimson Tide 34-28. The win was worth more than bragging rights. The triumph propelled Auburn to the SEC Championship game, where they won before falling to Florida State in the BCS title game.

Auburn’s return to glory

Auburn has only defeated Alabama in the annual matchup twice since 2013. However, with head coach Hugh Freeze taking over the program, Auburn faithful have hope once again. Freeze won’t have it easy.

The Tigers have seen double-digit wins just once since appearing in the national championship in 2013. Worse, the program has won just two of its last eight bowl game appearances. Freeze forsees a brighter future for the program.

“To develop young men to go out into society that have learned valuable, valuable lessons from this coaching staff and from playing experiences. Both good and bad,” Freeze told On3’s JD PicKell back in April. “And, hopefully, they learn from the times we’ve made mistakes (as well as) the times we got it right. Learn your beliefs truly drive your behaviors, which will create some type of habit that will give you a result.”

If Freeze can ever deliver a moment as satisfying as Davis “pick-six,” he’ll be just fine. Watch Auburn kick off its season on Sept. 2, against Massachussetts.
