Auburn 4-star QB commit Walker White focused on building Tigers’ 2024 class
One trip was all Little Rock (Ark.) Little Rock Christian Academy four-star quarterback Walker White needed to know that Auburn was home. White committed to the Tigers on Feb. 2 and has been back twice in the spring for visits.
White made it clear to the Tigers’ coaching staff with his commitment that he had no other plans of going anywhere else. Now as one of their main recruiters, White’s focused on building the Tigers’ 2024 class into one of the best in the nation.
“I let the coaches at Auburn know that I’m gonna honor this commitment,” White told On3. “I told them that I’m coming to Auburn, I’m not gonna visit any other schools and Auburn is my place. Now they’re really focused on the 2025 quarterbacks and I’ve helped them try to recruit the other 24 guys in our class to try to build that.”
White said that instead of continually recruiting him, talks with the Tigers coaching staff have turned into how they can land commitments from top prospects.
“The communication is all about, what guys do we like?,” said White, the No. 95 player in the 2024 class. “How can we get them and what are we doing to get them? I’ve taken that role of building relationships with other guys. There’s so much other recruiting that outsiders don’t see.
“The coaches doo 99% of the work and I’m adding that 1%. I’m just building relationships and being myself.”
White believes Hugh Freeze is building a winner at Auburn
While he’s primarily focused on recruiting the top offensive linemen in the country, White said he’s heavily involved in trying to help the Tigers land some dynamic offensive weapons.
Some guys he’s tried to recruit to Auburn include four-star wide receiver Perry Thompson, four-star tight end Carter Nelson, and four-star running back Kevin Riley.
When he’s pitching the Tigers to recruits, White said he tells them his story and how he felt after just one visit. He tells them about the staff and how he believes that Auburn is building a winner with Hugh Freeze.
White said that he believes with what the Tigers are building in their 2024 and 2025 classes and with Freeze leading the way, the Tigers will be back to being national title contenders within the next five years.
“I let guys that I’m recruiting know that there’s a different feel at Auburn and it was just something that the Lord was leading me too,” White said. “The opportunity at Auburn to become a winning team is very, very probable under coach freeze. I’m just very excited to be a part of that.”
